Downs, Edmundo sweep NJAC Player of the Week honors
CAMDEN, N.J. (Jan. 26, 2026) – The Rutgers University-Camden men's and women's basketball teams both earns a pair of New Jersey Athletic Conference wins last week against Rutgers-Newark and Ramapo.
As a result of their success and a pair of phenomenal individual performances, the Scarlet Raptors captured a rare double-double when it came time to recognize the top NJAC athletes on Monday.

Courtney Edmundo were both named the NJAC Player of the Week for men's and women's basketball, respectively. The honors came after terrific performances in which Downs scored 58 points in two games and Edmundo notched 43 points and collected a double-double in both games.
Both players also hit career milestones during the week, as Downs passed the 1,500-point plateau for his four-year career, while Edmundo's second season saw her sail past 500 career points. Downs now owns 1,525 career points, the third-highest total in program history and only 20 points shy of the second-place total of 1,545 by Reggie Owens (1981-85). Edmundo, meanwhile, has hiked her career total to 525, well on her way to eventually joining the 1,000-point club.
Edmundo notched a double-double in both of her games last week, giving her four straight double-doubles, nine this season and 16 for her career.
Downs collected 58 points in his two games last week, including 24 against Rutgers-Newark and 34 against Ramapo. He shot 23-for-43 from the floor (6-for-15 on treys) and 6-for-7 from the foul line. He also had a total of 13 rebounds, four steals and one blocked shot in the two games. His 34 points against Ramapo were three shy of his career high, set on November 15 against Maine Maritime at Amherst College's Ken Wright '52 Tournament. He was named a member of the All-Tournament Team after collecting 54 points in his two games.
Downs leads the Raptors in scoring (21.3 ppg), steals (30) and blocked shots (15) this season and is second in rebounding (6.0 rpg). He also has 14 assists. He's shooting 119-for-239 (.498) from the floor and 65-for-86 (.756) from the line. For his career, Downs has made 358 free throws, the second-highest total in program history, and his career free throw percentage of .7505 rounded up places him in a statistical tie with the program's all-time leader of .7514 by Brian Streater (1997-99) for all players meeting the NCAA minimum of 250 successful career free throws.
Downs' NJAC Player of the Week honor marks the third time in his career he has captured that award, adding to the two he won during the 2023-24 season on Dec. 4 and Jan. 29. During his freshman season, Downs was the NJAC Rookie of the Year, earned three NJAC Rookie of the Week honors and was named NJAC Honorable Mention. He has captured NJAC Second Team honors the last two seasons and has been named Rutgers-Camden's Raptor of the Week 14 times, including Monday.
Downs currently ranks first in the NJAC in conference-only scoring at 20.0 points per game.
Edmundo's huge week included a double-double against Rutgers-Newark (12 points, 10 rebounds) and Ramapo (a career-high 31 points, along with 12 rebounds). For the week she also had eight assists, four blocks and three steals. She shot 16-for-17 from the foul line over the two games, including 6-for-6 against Newark and 10-for-11 against Ramapo.
Edmundo's Player of the Week honor adds to an impressive season in which she also earned NJAC Defensive Player of the Week recognition on November 17. During her freshman season last year, Edmundo was a four-time NJAC Rookie of the Week and earned Honorable Mention at the John K. Adams Tip-Off Classic from Nov. 15-17. Edmundo also has been Rutgers-Camden's Raptor of the Week twice in her career, including on Dec. 1 this season.
Edmundo leads the Scarle Raptors in scoring (14.4 ppg), rebounding (8.9 rpg), steals (36) and blocked shots (28), while ranking second with 45 assists.
In her brief 43-game career, Edmundo has added 274 rebounds, 100 assists, 74 steals and 37 blocked shots to her 525 points. She is a .615 shooter from the foul line (123-for-200) and has a .423 percentage (188-for-444) from the floor.
In conference-only games this season, Edmundo ranks fourth in the NJAC in both scoring (15.0 ppg) and rebounding (9.6 rpg).
