GALLOWAY, N.J. (Jan. 7, 2026) – With 6:39 remaining in its game here Wednesday night, the Rutgers University-Camden men's basketball team faced a 15-point deficit against New Jersey Athletic Conference rival Stockton University.
Six minutes later, the Scarlet Raptors were locked in a tight game before the Ospreys finally pulled out a 78-73 victory.
The victory lifts the Ospreys to 7-6 overall and 4-2 in the NJAC, while the Scarlet Raptors fall to 7-5 overall and 2-4 in conference play.
Stockton now leads the all-time series, 87-10, but this game quickly transitioned from a runaway to a nail-biter.
After trailing by 70-55 with 6:39 remaining, the Scarlet Raptors went on a 13-4 run to slice their gap to 74-68 with 1:47 remaining. Senior guard
Eric Benjamin followed with a trey to make it a 74-71 game with 1:02 left on the clock. After a foul shot by Stockton, the Scarlet Raptors made a pair of foul shots by sophomore guard
Ryan Senft, cutting the gap to 75-73 with 27 seconds left before the Ospreys closed out the game with three foul shots for the final margin.
Stockton ended up with six players scoring in double figures to offset the tremendous games by Benjamin and senior forward
Cameron Downs. Benjamin notched a career-high 25 points, aided by five treys, while Downs added 24 points. He also blocked two shots.
Senior forward Tayvon Gaither paced the Ospreys with 17 points. Junior guard Andrew Crawford scored 15 points and a pair of junior guards, Justin Harper and Devon Johnson, added 11 points apiece. A pair of sophomores, forward Logan Mckee and guard Charlie Bell, notched 10 points apiece for Stockton.
The Ospreys led all the way, jumping to a 4-0 advantage and, after the Scarlet Raptors cut the gap to 4-3, scoring the next seven points to make it 11-3. Rutgers-Camden cut the gap to 20-16, but by halftime the Ospreys held a 40-31 lead. They hiked the margin to as many as 16 points, 64-48, before the Scarlet Raptors rallied.
Stockton shot 29-for-58 (50 percent) from the floor and held a 41-27 advantage off the boards. Rutgers-Camden shot 23-for-60 (38.3), but only made six turnovers, compared to 15 for the Ospreys.
Rutgers-Camden returns to NJAC action on Saturday when it hosts Kean University at 3 p.m.
