GALLOWAY, NJ. - The Rutgers University-Camden men's soccer team opened its New Jersey Athletic Conference schedule Wednesday night, falling to host Stockton University, 3-0.
The loss dropped Rutgers-Camden to 3-5-1 overall and 0-1 in NJAC play, while Stockton improved to 2-4-4 overall and 1-0 in the conference.
The Scarlet Raptors generated the first opportunity of the night when junior midfielder Willyam Veiga had a shot blocked in the seventh minute. Rutgers-Camden nearly answered later in the opening half. Veiga put a shot on target, but Stockton goalkeeper Cole Butler saved it to preserve the Ospreys' lead.
The Scarlet Raptors continued to push offensively and produced six of their eight shots after halftime. Conrad Ochalik sent an attempt wide in the 55th minute, while Veiga fired high in the 64th. Rutgers-Camden generated another spell of pressure in the 70th through 72nd minutes, earning a pair of corner kicks while Zach Webb recorded two shots and Dylan Pino had an attempt blocked.
Rutgers-Camden continued attacking after the third goal, and Cameron Jordan placed a shot on frame in the 77th minute, forcing Butler to make his second save of the night.
Stockton finished with a 12-8 advantage in shots and a 7-2 margin in shots on goal, while Rutgers-Camden held a 4-3 edge in corner kicks. Veiga led the Scarlet Raptors with three shots, including one on goal, while Webb added two shots. Jordan accounted for Rutgers-Camden's other shot on target.
Joe Zubert played all 90 minutes in goal for the Scarlet Raptors and finished with four saves.
