READING, Pa. (Oct. 3, 2026) - The Rutgers University-Camden volleyball team enjoyed a successful Saturday in Reading, sweeping both ends of a tri-match with victories over Alvernia University and Delaware Valley University.
The Scarlet Raptors opened the day with a 3-1 victory over host Alvernia, winning by scores of 25-16, 25-21, 18-25 and 25-16. They followed that performance by sweeping Delaware Valley, 27-25, 25-21 and 25-19, to improve to 10-7 overall.
Rutgers-Camden received contributions throughout its lineup while winning six of seven sets on the day.
Against Alvernia, the Scarlet Raptors collected 51 kills and hit .236 as a team, compared with 37 kills and a .110 hitting percentage for the Golden Wolves. Rutgers-Camden was particularly effective in the fourth set, hitting .310 with 14 kills while holding Alvernia to a -.061 percentage.
Ella Carmen Truitt led a balanced attack with 10 kills, while Sofia Granieri and Gabby Gbolahan added nine apiece. Gbolahan committed only one error in 18 attempts for a .444 hitting percentage and added three solo blocks and one block assist. Nissi Wadieh contributed eight kills while hitting .375, and Asha Pensa Johnson also finished with eight kills.
The Scarlet Raptors also received a strong defensive effort from Mia Owens, who collected a team-high 16 digs and added two service aces. Lora Kunicki had 12 digs and three aces, while Cassie Guim collected 10 digs and 14 assists. JoAnna Andrews paced the setting attack with 20 assists while adding seven digs and three kills.
After taking the first two sets against Alvernia, Rutgers-Camden dropped the third set, 25-18. The Scarlet Raptors quickly regained control in the fourth, jumping to leads of 7-3 and 15-8 before closing out the match, 25-16. Rutgers-Camden registered 14 kills in the deciding set.
Rutgers-Camden carried that momentum into its second match, although Delaware Valley provided a major challenge in the opening set. The Scarlet Raptors trailed 25-24 before Wadieh delivered a kill to tie the set. An Aggie attack error gave Rutgers-Camden a 26-25 edge and Andrews followed with a kill to complete the 27-25 comeback victory.
The Scarlet Raptors captured the second set, 25-21, before completing the sweep with a 25-19 victory in the third. Rutgers-Camden posted its best hitting percentage of the match in the final set, collecting 13 kills with only three errors for a .278 percentage.
Gbolahan led the Scarlet Raptors with 10 kills against Delaware Valley, hitting .292 while adding two service aces. Granieri contributed nine kills and hit .258, while Truitt had eight kills and a .333 hitting percentage. Wadieh finished with five kills and three total blocks.
Owens turned in another strong all-around defensive performance with 15 digs and three aces. Andrews collected 15 assists, while Guim added 11 assists and five digs. Kunicki joined Owens with three service aces as Rutgers-Camden finished with nine aces in the match.
For the two matches combined, Rutgers-Camden produced 94 kills, 116 digs and 17 service aces, while winning six of its seven sets. Gbolahan collected 19 kills on the day, Granieri finished with 18 and Truitt added 18. Owens totaled 31 digs and five service aces, while Kunicki collected 16 digs and six aces.
