Raptors' Downs earns NJAC First Team recognition
CAMDEN, N.J. (Feb. 24, 2026) –
Cameron Downs has been a force in the New Jersey Athletic Conference since his freshman year and the Rutgers University-Camden senior forward capped his career today by earning a berth on the NJAC Men's Basketball First Team.
Downs, who has been an All-NJAC player in each of his four seasons, becomes the first NJAC First Team player since Isaac Destin, who accomplished that feat during the 2019-20 season. Downs captured NJAC Honorable Mention as a freshman, when he also earned NJAC Rookie of the Year honors. He was named NJAC Second Team during both his sophomore and junior seasons.

Downs led the Scarlet Raptors to a 13-11 record this season as Rutgers-Camden awaits a possible berth in the ECAC tournament. This season he leads the Scarlet Raptors in scoring (21.1 ppg), rebounding (6.2 rpg), steals (43) and blocked shots (25), while adding 26 assists.
Downs has started all of his 22 games this season, while scoring 20 or more points 12 times. In three of those games, he scored over 30 points, including a career-high 37 against Maine Maritime on November 15. He has produced a pair of double-doubles this season and 13 for his career.
Downs was named the NJAC Player of the Week on January 26, marking the third time in his career he captured that award. He also was a three-time NJAC Rookie of the Week as a freshman.
Downs also captured a berth on the All-Tournament team at Amherst College's Ken Wright '52 Tournament (November 14-15) and was named Rutgers-Camden's Raptor of the Week three times this season (Nov. 24, Jan. 5 and Jan. 26). He has been the Raptor of the Week 14 times during his career.
One of the program's all-time greats, Downs ranks among the Rutgers-Camden career leaders in numerous categories, including second in scoring (1,670 points), free throws made (389), free throws attempted (521) and free throw percentage (.747), third in field goals (591), tied for third in blocks (68), fourth in field goal percentage (.529) and field goal attempts (1,118), sixth in scoring average (17.8 ppg), seventh in steals (140), eighth in rebounds (585), tied for eighth in games played (94, all of them starts) and 18th in assists (138).
A Business major at Rutgers-Camden, Downs scored 1,100 points and was a two-time All-Conference First Team player at Pemberton High School.
