Wokock, Cunard combine to hurl Raptors past Ripon

WINTER HAVEN, Fla. (March 15, 2026) – Rutgers University-Camden junior righty Austin Wokock hurled seven innings of six-hit ball and junior Gavin Cunard fired two hitless innings as the Scarlet Raptors defeated Ripon College, 6-1, here Sunday at the RussMatt Central Florida Invitational.

The win evens the Scarlet Raptors' record at 5-5. Ripon (Ripon, Wisconsin) falls to 1-7.

Wokock raised his record to 2-1, allowing only one earned run and two walks over his seven innings, while striking out 11. Cunard hurled two perfect innings to notch his first save of the season and sixth of his career.

Rutgers-Camden scored a run in the top of the first inning when junior center fielder Jacob Watson drew a leadoff walk, stole second and advanced to third on a fly out. He scored on a ground out by sophomore designated hitter Jake Slusarski.

That run stood up in a pitching duel between Wokock and Ripon freshman Griffin Jens until the bottom of the sixth, when the Red Hawks loaded the bases on two singles and a walk and scored on a double play.

Rutgers-Camden responded with the go-ahead run in the top of the seventh inning on a pair of errors, sandwiched around a sacrifice bunt. The Scarlet Raptors added another run in the eighth, sparked by singles from Watson and junior second baseman Austin Dubler, a double steal and an RBI single by Slusarski.

The Scarlet Raptors broke the game open in the ninth inning, sparked by a leadoff single from sophomore shortstop Chris Smith. Sophomore Ryan Joseph pinch hit and was hit by a pitch. Junior left fielder Matt McAleer singled to load the bases before Watson plated all three runners with a double down the left field line.

Watson led the attack, going 2-for-4 with two runs, three RBIs and two stolen bases. He raised his Rutgers-Camden career-leading total to 95 steals.

Dubler went 2-for-5 on the day and added his eighth stolen base of the season, tied with Watson for the team lead. His two hits extended his season-opening hitting streak to 10 games, the only Raptor to hit safely in all of the team's contests.

For Ripon, graduate student right fielder Gabriel Kennedy and freshman center fielder Trey Page both had two hits.

Jens (0-1) worked seven innings, allowing five hits, two walks and three earned runs. He struck out three.

Rutgers-Camden will face a pair of teams on Monday in Davenport. The Raptors play Farmingdale State College at 12:15 p.m. and UMass-Boston at 3:30 p.m.
