GALLOWAY, N.J. (April 17, 2026) – It didn't take long for the Stockton University baseball team to make a statement in its New Jersey Athletic Conference game here Friday.
The Ospreys exploded for 12 runs on 11 hits, two walks and two errors in the bottom of the first inning and went on to rout the Scarlet Raptors, 23-7, one day after losing 19-9 in Camden.
The Scarlet Raptors fell to 15-17 overall and 7-5 in the conference, while Stockton improved to 8-22 and 4-8.
Stockton sent 17 batters to the plate in the first inning, which included a two-run double by senior third baseman Joe Gmitter and a two-run single by sophomore center fielder Matthew McCloskey. Freshman left fielder Jimmy Casey and senior first baseman Nick Avagnano both collected two RBI singles. In all, five players had a pair of hits in the opening frame.
Trailing, 17-0, Rutgers-Camden finally got on the scoreboard with two runs in the third inning, loading the bases with two outs on a pair of hit batsmen and a walk. Sophomore designated hitter
Jake Slusarski walked to force home one run and junior center fielder
Jacob Watson became the third hit batsman in five batters, forcing home another run.
Stockton ended the day with 29 hits, including a huge 6-for-7 game by Avagnano, who missed a cycle by only a triple. He had seven RBIs and scored three runs. Five other Ospreys collected three hits apiece.
Rutgers-Camden managed only five hits off of three Stockton pitchers, including doubles by sophomore right fielder

Freshman Nick Kowalewski (2-2) picked up the win, working six innings and allowing only one hit. He walked six, struck out two and was charged with three runs, one of them unearned.

Killian McCaffrey (0-4) took the loss, allowing 11 runs, 10 earned, in two-thirds of an inning.
Rutgers-Camden will host Montclair State University at 11:30 a.m. Saturday in an NJAC doubleheader.
