CAMDEN, N.J. – The Rutgers-Camden women's volleyball team battled Drew University to five sets on Wednesday, pulling the reserve sweep in a 3-2 win over the Rangers.
The Scarlet Raptors (6-4) won by taking the last three sets, after falling 25-19, 25-19 in the first two sets to the Rangers (2-7).
RUC won the third set, 25-18, the fourth set, 25-20, and the fifth set, 15-9.
After hitting below 0.100 in the first two sets, the Scarlet Raptors hit .273 in the third and fifth sets and .279 in the fourth set. In the final set, Rutgers-Camden hit 3-0-11.
Gabby Gbolahan had ten kills – a team high – while Sofia Granieri and Nissi Wadieh had eight each. Lora Kunicki had three aces, with Mia Owens and Marley Landress each netting two. Gbolahan hit .259 (10-3-27) on the evening, while Ella Carmen Truitt went .231 (6-3-13) in the win.
RUC had 11 blocks on the night, with Wadieh having six and Asha Pensa Johnson getting five. Gbolahan had three.
JoAnna Andrews had 19 assists, while Owens had 20 digs defensively.
Trailing 8-6 in the third set, the Scarlet Raptors battled back to tie at 11-all before going on a 6-1 run to take a 17-12 lead on a kill by Granieri. In the fourth set, the Scarlet Raptors trailed 15-13 before scoring the next five points, capped by a kill from Andrews, to take an 18-15 lead.
In the fifth set, after Drew took the first point, RUC scored the next three and never trailed.
The Scarlet Raptors head to Washington College to take on the Shorewomen and Christendom, before hosting Rutgers-Newark in NJAC play next Tuesday.
