CAMDEN, N.J. - The Rutgers-Camden women's volleyball team battled Ramapo through five sets before the Roadrunners (7-3, 2-0 NJAC) rallied to edge the Scarlet Raptors (8-6, 1-1 NJAC), 3-2, Tuesday night at Rutgers-Camden Gymnasium.
Ramapo took the opening set, 25-23, before Rutgers-Camden responded with 25-11 and 25-20 wins. The Roadrunners forced a deciding fifth set with a 26-24 win in the fourth and rallied for a 16-14 victory in the finale. Rutgers-Camden fell to 8-6 overall and 1-1 in conference play, while Ramapo improved to 7-3 and 2-0.
Sofia Granieri led a balanced Scarlet Raptor attack with 14 kills and a .333 hitting percentage.
Nissi Wadieh collected 12 kills while hitting a team-best .370, and
Gabby Gbolahan added eight kills on a .273 attack percentage.
Asha Pensa Johnson chipped in nine kills.
Rutgers-Camden dominated the second set, jumping out to a 12-6 lead before closing the frame on a 13-5 run for a 25-11 victory. The Scarlet Raptors hit .286 in the set while holding Ramapo to .037 attack percentage.
The Scarlet Raptors followed with a 25-20 victory in the third set, using a 6-0 run to turn a 16-15 deficit into a 21-16 advantage.
After Ramapo captured a back-and-forth fourth set, Rutgers-Camden built a 12-6 advantage in the fifth. The Roadrunners answered with six straight points to tie at 14 before scoring the final two points for the win.
Defensively,
JoAnna Andrews led Rutgers-Camden with 25 digs, while
Cassie Guim added 21 and
Mia Owens collected 17. Andrews also recorded 25 assists, while Guim added 21. The Scarlet Raptors finished with 59 kills, 68 digs, and seven team blocks.
