Rutgers-Camden Athletics

A transfer to Rutgers-Camden, Alex Smart proved to be one of the Scarlet Raptors’ most valuable and versatile players during the 2013-14 season. A big man who can also dish out assists with the best of them, Smart paced the Scarlet Raptors in assists and finished second in both scoring and rebounding averages during his first year at Rutgers-Camden.
 
Basketball 2013-14: Played in all 25 games, starting 23…Second on the team in scoring (13.8 ppg) and rebounding (5.9 rpg)…Had a team-leading 51 assists and 16 blocked shots…Third on the club with 26 steals…Shot .407 from the floor (133-for-327)…Finished 15th in the New Jersey Athletic Conference in scoring and 16th in rebounding, including 10th in defensive rebounding (4.4 per game)…Finished sixth in the conference in minutes played per game (34.4)…14th in the NJAC in blocked shots per game (0.6)…Named Rutgers-Camden’s Raptor of the Week on both Dec. 16 and Jan. 6…Scored in double figures in 21 of his 25 games, including three 20-point games…Made his collegiate debut with a start against Millersville University in the season opener (Nov. 16), scoring 14 points, grabbing seven rebounds and adding two assists and one steal…Exploded for a career-high 27 points, including 11-for-21 shooting from the floor, against Berkeley College (Dec. 13), adding six rebounds, one assist, one steal and a career-high two blocked shots…Tied his career high with two blocked shots against Lehman College (Dec. 29), Ramapo College (Jan. 25) and Rowan University (Dec. 29)…Also notched his career high of 14 rebounds in that Jan. 29 game against Rowan, while scoring 22 points for his first career double-double…Had a career high of six assists and added 11 points against Eastern University (Dec. 16)…Made a career-high four steals against Kean University (Feb. 8), adding 14 points…His final 20-point game of the season came against The College of New Jersey (Feb. 10) when he poured in 22 points (shooting 10-for-20 from the floor) and added eight rebounds to barely miss another double-double…Shot 4-for-6 from three-point range against Kean University (Feb. 8) on his way to 14 points.
 
Pre-Rutgers: Attended St. John’s University for three years…Practiced one year with the basketball program but did not compete.
 
High School: Two-year basketball letterman for Coach Tim Dunne at Timber Creek High School.
