Rutgers-Camden Athletics

A transfer from Immaculata University, Julian Diaz-Smitherman made his Rutgers-Camden athletic debut in one cross country race during the 2015 fall season before playing all 25 games for the men’s basketball program. He returns for his second and final season of collegiate basketball this winter.
 
Basketball 2015-16: Played in all 25 Rutgers-Camden games, starting two…Averaged 3.2 points and 1.6 rebounds…Finished third on the team with 36 assists…Added eight steals…Shot 26-for-75 from the floor (.347), including 10-for-32 (.313) from three-point range…Shot 18-for-31 (.581) from the foul line…Started the Raptors’ first two games of the season in the Penn State-Harrisburg Tip-Off Tournament (Nov. 14-15), collecting five points, three rebounds and an assist against PSU-Harrisburg on Nov. 14 and notching four points, two boards and one assist against Roanoke College the following day…Established his career high of eight points – a mark he tied on three other occasions – against Rosemont College (Nov. 20)…Set his career high of five assists, while adding two points and three rebounds, at Kean University (Dec. 5)…Tied his career scoring high and set his rebounding high with eight points and four boards at Immaculate University (Dec. 12), while adding his first steal…In that Immaculata game, went 8-for-10 from the foul line to account for all of his points…Tied his career highs of eight points and four rebounds, while adding four assists and setting a career high of two steals, in a game against Stockton University (Feb. 3)…Tied career highs of eight points and five assists in his next game at Montclair State (Feb. 6).
 
Cross Country 2015: Ran in one 8K race, competing at the Osprey Open (Sept. 26)…Placed third on the Scarlet Raptors and 139th of 145 overall, posting a 40:26.21 clocking.
 
Pre-Rutgers: Attended Neumann University during the 2012-13 scholastic year, but didn’t play basketball…Played basketball in 2013-14 at Immaculata University, appearing in 21 games and making three starts…Averaged 2.1 points and 0.4 rebounds, while chipping in with nine steals and 14 assists…Made his first start against William Peace University (Jan. 4, 2014) and scored his season high of seven points, while adding one rebound, one assist and three steals…Tied his seven-point high against Rosemont College (Jan. 29)…Had a season high of two rebounds against Rosemont and tied that total against Cabrini College (Feb. 20)…Had a season-high four assists, while adding four points, against Baptist Bible (Jan. 11).
 
High School: Played three seasons at St. Augustine Prep, including the 2010-11 campaign when the Hermits won the state championship…Played his final season as a point guard at Pennsauken High School.
