Biography

One of the Scarlet Raptors’ top players over his two-year career at Rutgers-Camden, John Tatem has earned a pair of Player of the Week honors and also been named the Raptors’ Samuel Strauss Memorial Award winner as the team’s Most Dedicated Player.
 
Over his two-year, 51-game career at Rutgers-Camden, Tatem has averaged 8.8 points and 4.1 rebounds, while adding 59 assists, 33 steals and 15 blocked shots. He owns a career .503 shooting percentage from the floor (174-for-346) and a career .713 (92-for-129) mark from the foul line.
 
After competing in one cross country invitational during the 2015 fall season, Tatem returns to the basketball court this winter.
 
Cross Country 2015: Made his collegiate cross country debut at the 8K Bill Fritz/Charlie Way Invitational (Sept. 19)…Finished fourth on the Scarlet Raptors and 90th of 93 overall in a time of 46:23.00.
 
Basketball 2014-15: Appeared in all 26 games, starting the first 13…Averaged 6.3 points and 3.6 rebounds…Collected 33 assists to finish third on the team…Added 11 steals and seven blocked shots…Shot 58-for-130 (.446) from the floor and 43-for-53 (.811) from the foul line…Made 16 consecutive foul shots over four games from Jan. 10-17, capped by a 5-for-5 performance against Ramapo College (Jan. 17)…Tied his career high of two blocked shots at The College of New Jersey (Jan. 21), when he also added six points, two steals and four rebounds…Scored in double figures on four occasions, with a high of 23 at Ramapo College (Jan. 17), when he added his season high of eight rebounds and also notched one assist, one steal and one block…Notched back-to-back double-digit games Dec. 6 and 10, with 10 points against Kean University and 14 against Stockton, respectively…Added four rebounds in both of those games…Notched 13 points, four rebounds and one assist against William Paterson University (Jan. 24)…Grabbed five or more rebounds on nine occasions, and also added five contests with four boards apiece…In addition to his eight rebounds against Ramapo, had seven-rebound games against Immaculata University (Nov 15) and Arcadia University (Nov. 9)…Grabbed six rebounds against Penn State-Brandywine (Dec. 30) and New Jersey City University (Jan. 14)…Notched his season high of three assists on four occasions, coming against Penn State-Brandywine (Dec. 30), Moravian College (Jan. 5), Rutgers-Newark (Jan. 7) and Ramapo College (Feb. 14).
 
Basketball 2013-14: Played in all 25 games, starting 20…Finished third on the team in scoring (11.4 ppg) and fourth in rebounding (4.7 rpg)…Fourth in steals (22) and fifth in assists (26)…Tied for second on the team with eight blocked shots…Led all Rutgers-Camden regulars in field goal percentage (.537), the 15th-best single-season mark in program history for all players with the minimum of 100 attempts…If he maintains that percentage with 34 more attempts, he’ll qualify for the program’s career list, jumping into sixth place…That field goal percentage was the fifth-best mark in the NJAC…Named the NJAC Player of the Week and the ECAC Metro Co-Player of the Week on Jan. 27…Earned honors as Rutgers-Camden’s Raptor of the Week on both Dec. 23 and Jan. 27…Named team’s Samuel Strauss Memorial Award winner as the Raptors’ Most Dedicated Player…Collected four double-doubles…Scored in double figures on four occasions, including six times with 20 or more points…Started his first collegiate game, against Millersville University, in the season opener on Nov. 16, collecting two points, one rebound, one steal and one blocked shot…Had his first game scoring in double digits with 12 points (6-for-8 from the floor) against Rowan University (Nov. 26)…Collected first 20-point game with 22 points against William Paterson University (Jan. 18)., adding eight rebounds…Hauled down 10 rebounds and added 21 points for his first double-double, coming against Rutgers-Newark (Jan. 22)…Added another double-double against Ramapo College (Jan. 25), notching a career-high 29 points and adding 10 rebounds…Shot 9-for-13 from the floor (1-for-1 from three-point range) and 10-for-12 from the foul line in that game…Had a career-high two blocked shots against Rowan University (Jan. 29)…Posted career highs of four steals and four assists, while notching a double-double of 21 points and 10 rebounds against Montclair State University (Feb. 1)…Posted his final double-double of the year with 14 points and 11 rebounds against Kean University (Feb. 8)…Scored 20 points in two of his last three games, coming against Richard Stockton College (Feb. 12) and New Jersey City University (Feb. 19).
 
Pre-Rutgers: Attended both Bloomfield University and Rowan University, but didn’t play basketball.
 
High School: Three-year varsity basketball letterman at Pennsauken Tech for Coach Jim Morton.
 
Personal: Born September 30, 1993…Business Management major at Rutgers-Camden…His superstition is to listen to the Get Rich or Die Tryin’ album by 50 Cent before every game…Plans to become a CEO of a Fortune 500 company…John is the son of Helen Turner and Jesse Robinson of Camden.
