One of the outstanding rookies on the 2017 Rutgers-Camden baseball team, John Tedeschi broke his way into the starting lineup midway through the season and became a huge cog in the Scarlet Raptors’ lineup both offensively and with his defense in center field. Tedeschi hit .328 in his 17 games and tied a single-game program record with three doubles against New Jersey City University on April 29.
Baseball 2017: Appeared in 17 games, starting his last 13…Hit .328 with a .426 slugging percentage and a .414 on-base percentage…Had six doubles, 13 runs and nine RBIs…Defensively, had 32 putouts, one assist, one double play and one error for a .971 fielding percentage…His finest game came in the opener of a doubleheader against New Jersey City University (April 29), when he went 4-for-4 with a walk, one run, one RBI and a program record-tying three doubles…Had six multiple-hit games on the season and his four-hit game was one of only six by the Scarlet Raptors during the campaign…Had a pair of multiple-RBI games, with two RBIs against Rowan University April 14 in his first collegiate start (2-for-4) and two against Stockton University (April 21), going 1-for-4 with two walks…Had his longest hitting streak of the season from April 8-23, going 13-for32 (.406) in eight consecutive games…Also had a four-game streak from April 28-30 (7-for-17, .412)…Hit safely in 11 of his 13 starts…Made his collegiate debut March 14, going 0-for-1 as a sub in left field…His first collegiate start against Rowan on April 14 started a streak in which he went 2-for-4 in four consecutive games, including Rowan (adding two RBIs), Ramapo (April 15, adding two runs), Keystone (April 18) and Stockton (April 20, adding four runs, one RBI, one walk and two doubles)…After going 1-for-4 with two RBIs in another Stockton game on April 21, had another two-hit game against Montclair State (April 23, Game One), going 2-for-5 with one run…Notched his season high of five putouts against Kean University (April 28), while going 1-for-4 with a walk and one run.
