
A well-rounded student-athlete, Shane Guyer has played an integral role with the Rutgers-Camden men’s soccer program and at the university as a whole. Named the Scarlet Raptors’ Most Dedicated Player during the 2016 season, Guyer tied for third on the team in scoring and tied for the club lead with two game-winning goals.
Academically, he has been a member of all four Rutgers-Camden Athletic Director’s Honor Rolls since the program started during the Fall 2015 semester. In addition to the inaugural Fall 2015 honor, he added spots on the AD Honor Roll for the Spring 2016, Fall 2016 and Spring 2017 semesters.
Guyer was named New Jersey Athletic Conference Academic Honorable Mention for the 2016-17 scholastic year and also was the recipient of the Tommasso A. Borda Memorial Award, given by the Rutgers University-Camden Division of Student Affairs Awards. The honor is given in memory of Tommasso A. Borda, a recognized campus leader and athlete, and is presented to a junior on the basis of outstanding contributions to campus activities, athletics, academics and community service.
As a member of Rutgers-Camden’s Student-Athlete Advisory Committee, Guyer joined fellow SAAC member and soccer teammate Steve Karakitsios as a volunteer helping with the Teddy’s Toys for Camden kids party at the Adventure Aquarium in December, 2016.
Guyer, who played his freshman season at NJAC rival Rowan University, has played in 55 games during his combined collegiate career, collecting 10 goals and five assists for 25 points. In his two seasons with the Scarlet Raptors, he has played in 40 games and produced eight goals, including all three of his career game-winning goals, and two assists for 18 points.
Guyer will serve as one of the Scarlet Raptors' four captains this season.
Soccer 2016: Appeared in 21 games, starting 11…Tied for the team lead with two game-winning goals…Tied for second on the team with five goals…Tied for third on the team with 11 points…Notched one assist…Took 25 shots, with 14 on goal for a .560 percentage…Named the team’s Most Dedicated Player…Member of the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee…Started and scored his first goal of the year in the season-opening 3-3 tie against St. Mary’s (Sept. 2)…Collected a goal in a 3-0 win over NJAC rival Rutgers-Newark (Sept. 17)…Tallied the lone goal in the Raptors’ 1-0 win over The College of New Jersey (Sept. 28) for his first game-winning goal of the season…Collected an assist in a 4-2 loss to Montclair State University in the NJAC playoffs (Oct. 29)…Scored two goals – including the game winner – in a 3-1 win over Hunter College in the opening round of the ECAC Division III Men’s Soccer Championships (Nov. 12) on the way to earning a berth on the ECAC All-Tournament Team…The performance earned him honors as Rutgers-Camden’s Raptor of the Week on Nov. 14.
Soccer 2015: Played in 19 of the Scarlet Raptors’ 24 games, starting two…Finished fifth on the team in scoring with seven points, including three goals and one assist…Took 17 shots, six on goal…One of his goals was the first game-winning tally of his career, providing the winning margin in the Raptors’ 2-1 victory over Rutgers-Newark (Oct. 31) in the first round of the NJAC playoffs…That contest was the middle game of a three-game scoring streak which also included an insurance goal in a 2-0 victory over Stockton University (Oct. 29) and an assist on Clayton Taylor’s game-winning goal in another 2-0 win over Stockton (Nov. 4) in the NJAC semifinals…His first Raptor career goal was the final tally of a 5-1 win over Ramapo College (Oct. 10)…Made his Rutgers-Camden debut in the season opener against Rosemont College (Sept. 1), playing 30 minutes and taking four shots (one on goal) in the Scarlet Raptors’ 9-0 victory…Made his only two starts in the NJAC playoffs, starting the 2-0 win over Stockton (Nov. 4) in the semifinals and starting the championship game at Montclair State (Nov. 7), in which the teams played to a 0-0 tie before Rutgers-Camden emerged with the conference title on a penalty kick tie-breaker…Played his season high of 71 minutes in that NJAC title game…Also saw significant playing time in the Raptors’ two NCAA tournament games, a 2-1 win over Eastern University (Nov. 14, playing 51 minutes) and a 2-0 loss to SUNY-Oneonta (Nov. 15, 44 minutes).
Pre-Rutgers: Played his freshman season at Rowan University in 2014, starting 10 of his 15 games…Notched two goals and three assists to tie for fifth on the team in scoring with seven points…Took 21 shots…Scored one goal apiece in wins over John Jay College of Criminal Justice (Sept. 13) and SUNY-Old Westbury (Oct. 20)…Collected assists against Lehman College (Sept. 7), Arcadia University (Sept. 17) and Ramapo College (Oct. 4)…Captured Scholar-Athlete honors.
High School: Earned five varsity letters as a soccer and baseball letterman at Hammonton High School, playing for coaches Dave Thompson and Gary Sarno…In soccer, captured Second Team All-Cape-Atlantic League and Second Team All-South Jersey as a junior and senior…As a baseball senior, earned Second Team All-South Jersey…National Honor Society.
