Chris Jones enters the final year of his outstanding collegiate baseball career as he continues to climb the lists of all-time Rutgers-Camden program records. Jones has started all 113 games he has played at Rutgers-Camden and would set the all-time program record for games played if he approaches his 2018 total of 43. Brian Murphy (2001-04) holds the program mark with 154 games, 41 ahead of Jones.
The Scarlet Raptors’ shortstop as a freshman and the team’s second baseman for the past two seasons, Jones owns a .348 career batting average, the sixth-highest mark in program history for all players with the NCAA minimum of 200 career at bats. His 165 career hits are seventh in program history and within 43 of tying the all-time record set by Murphy. His 97 career RBIs rank fifth in program history and are within 38 of the record held by Jamie Schwantes (1994-97). He also owns 34 career doubles (tied for sixth in program history), placing him within 12 two-baggers of tying Murphy’s program record. He had 12 doubles in 2018 after hitting 14 in 2017.
Jones also ranks among the program’s career leaders with eight sacrifice flies (tied for fourth, only four shy of the program mark), 222 total bases (seventh), 474 at bats (tied for ninth), 90 runs (11th) and seven triples (tied for 11th).
Defensively, his 290 career assists rank fifth in program history and are only 38 shy of the Rutgers-Camden record set by Brian Jakubowski (2004-06). His 57 double plays also rank fifth on the program’s career list, while his 508 total chances rank 15th.
