Biography

One of the top sluggers in program history, Matt Yanick finished third on the Rutgers-Camden career list with 18 home runs, while compiling a .298 career batting average. He played in 121 games as a Scarlet Raptor, starting 100, and collected 208 total bases for a career slugging percentage of .473. Yanick added 35 walks and was hit by 22 pitches to compile a .372 on-base percentage. He scored 72 runs and drove home 87.
 
Yanick’s 131 career hits are tied for 15th on the program’s all-time list.
 
An All-New Jersey Athletic Conference Second Team player as a senior first baseman in 2021, he also was an All-NJAC First Team player as a sophomore and was a three-time team captain (2019, 2020, and 2021).
 
Academics: Rutgers-Camden Athletic Director’s Honor Roll for the 2019 spring, 2019 Fall and 2020 Fall semesters.
 
Baseball 2021: All-New Jersey Athletic Conference Second Team as a first baseman…Named to the ABCA/Rawlings Mid-Atlantic Third Team…Started all 25 of his games, hitting .309 with a .608 slugging percentage and a .395 on-base percentage…Had 16 starts at first base, eight at designated hitter and one at third base…His team-leading eight home runs were one shy of the single-season club record, shared by two players…Notched five doubles, 19 runs scored and 19 RBIs…Led the team with 118 putouts and tied for second on the team with 11 walks…Blasted two home runs against New Jersey City (April 10, Game Two), going 2-for-4 with two runs and four RBIs…Had an eight-game hitting streak from April 17-30, going 11-for-27 (.407) with three doubles, three home runs, nine runs, nine RBIs, nine walks, one HBP, a .538 on-base percentage and a .852 slugging percentage…His eight-game hitting streak was the third-longest streak on the team during the season…Had nine multiple-hit games (eight games with two hits, one with three hits), the fourth-best mark on the team…Tied for the team lead with six multiple-RBI games (one game with four RBIs, three games with three RBIs and two games with two RBIs)…Went 2-for-4 with a home run, two walks, one run and three RBIs at Stockton (April 22)…Went 1-for-2 with a home run, three walks, two runs and three RBIs at The College of New Jersey (April 30)…Had double-digit putouts in four games, with a high of 12 at Kean (March 27, Game One).
 
Baseball 2020: Started all six games during the Scarlet Raptors’ season that was shortened due to the COVID-19 pandemic…Served as one of the team’s three captains…Collected his 100th career hit in style against Ursinus (March 2), ripping a three-run home run in the seventh inning to become the 37th player in program history to reach the century milestone…That home run also was his 10th career round-tripper, tying him for sixth on the all-time list…Hit .333 with four runs, one home run, 10 total bases and two walks…Led the team with 10 RBIs and three HBP…Had a .476 slugging percentage and a .444 on-base percentage…Added one sacrifice fly…Defensively, finished second on the team with 25 putouts, while adding three assists and two double plays…After going 0-for-4 in the first game of a season-opening doubleheader at Immaculata (Feb. 23), went 4-for-4 with one run and four RBIs in the second game…In that game, he contributed to the Raptors’ program-record 12-run fifth inning by getting hit by a pitch and scoring a run in his first plate appearance of the frame and adding a RBI single later…In the nightcap of a twinbill sweep over Oneonta (March 1), went 1-for-2 with one run, one RBI and two HBP, while adding eight putouts at first base…Went 1-for-4 with one run, one walk and three RBIs against Ursinus (March 2), drilling his three-run home run for his milestone 100th hit…Added hit #101 at Neumann (March 9), going 1-for-4 with two RBIs…Also notched 12 putouts at first base in that game.
 
Baseball 2019: Started all 38 of Rutgers-Camden’s games, joining Chris Jones as the only players to accomplish that feat in 2019…Hit .298 and tied for the team lead with 27 RBIs…Reached base six times as a hit batsman, the second-highest total on the team…Third on the Scarlet Raptors with 42 hits…Tied for third on the team with four home runs, 24 runs, 59 total bases and two sacrifice flies…Also added three doubles and one triple…Served as one of the team’s captains…Compiled a .418 slugging percentage and a .369 on-base percentage…Had 11 walks and was successful on his lone stolen base attempt…Defensively, had 29 putouts in as many chances for a 1.000 fielding percentage…Third on the team with 14 multiple-hit games, including a 3-for-5 contest with three runs and two RBIs against Moravian (March 28) and a 3-for-4 game with one run against Stockton (April 18)…Had three RBIs against Hamilton (March 23), New Jersey City (April 6, Game 1) and Widener (April 9)…Scored three runs against Montclair State (April 13, Game 1), while going 2-for-2 with two walks…Reached base twice as a hit batsman and went 1-for-2 against Rutgers-Newark (April 8)…Started at first base in the season opener against 10th-ranked Cortland and had 16 putouts in 16 chances.
 
Baseball 2018: New Jersey Athletic Conference First Team…Played in 35 games, officially getting 17 starts at designated hitter, but usually being inserted in the lineup as a pinch-hitter/DH the first time the Scarlet Raptors came to the DH spot in the lineup, where they had a pitcher listed as the starter in case a sacrifice was warranted…Hit .308 with a .433 slugging percentage and a .372 on-base percentage…Scored 20 runs and drove home 22…Had two home runs (tied for second on the team) and nine doubles (tied for third)…Ten walks and four HBP…Three sacrifice flies and two sacrifices…Went 2-for-3 on stolen base attempts…Had a season-high seven-game hitting streak from April 15-22, going 9-for-26 (.346), including a 3-for-5 game at Stockton University (April 19) in which he had two doubles, one home run, two runs and three RBIs…Added a six-game hitting streak April 26-May 2, going 11-for-22 (.500) with multiple-hit games in five of those contests…For the season, had 10 multiple-hit games and six multiple-RBI games…Had his season high of four RBIs, going 2-for-4 with a walk and two runs scored, at Kean University (April 29)…Was a one-man wrecking crew as the Raptors posted a 3-1 win over No. 10/14-ranked The College of New Jersey on April 5, driving home all three runs with a second-inning sacrifice fly and RBI singles in the sixth and eighth innings…Went 3-for-3 with his three RBIs in that game…Went 1-for-2 with one walk, two HBP and three runs scored against Stevens Institute of Technology (April 8).
 
Baseball 2017: Played in 17 games, starting 14 (11 as the designated hitter and three at first base)…Hit .246 with four doubles and a team-leading three home runs…Had nine RBIs and scored five runs…Added one walk and was hit by a pitch five times, tied for the third-highest total on the team…Had a .459 slugging percentage and a .309 on-base percentage…Defensively, had 19 putouts, three assists, one double play and one error for a .957 fielding percentage…Made his collegiate debut as the Raptors’ starting DH against Elmira College (Feb. 25), going 1-for-4, including a second-inning solo home run in his first at bat that accounted for the Raptors’ lone run in a 2-1 loss…Reached base twice as a hit batsman, collected a sacrifice fly and scored one run in the nightcap of a doubleheader against Rutgers-Newark (April 8)…Went 2-for-4 with a solo home run at DeSales University (April 11)…Had another 2-for-4 game with one HBP and one run scored at Stockton University (April 21)…Collected an eight-inning pinch-hit RBI single against Montclair State in the first game of an April 23 doubleheader and went 2-for-5 with a double in the nightcap…Collected a pinch-hit RBI double in the eighth inning against Kean University (April 28)…In the opener of a doubleheader at New Jersey City University (April 29), went 2-for-4 with a solo home run and a two-run double, while also reaching as a hit batsman…In the nightcap of that twinbill, went 1-for-5 with one RBI…Started at first base in both games against NJCU, collecting 16 putouts and three assists, while making one error in 20 total chances…Also started his final game of the season at first base, April 30 at Misericordia University, going 1-for-5 with three putouts.
 
High School: Earned four varsity baseball letters at Palmyra High School for Coach Dan Licata…Independence Division First Team player all four years…Captured All-State Third Team honors during his senior season in 2016.
