Former Rutgers-Camden baseball pitcher Joseph Sponheimer joins the Scarlet Raptors’ golf team this season. After a stellar freshman year with the baseball team in 2018, Sponheimer was limited to only two games in 2019 before being shut down the rest of the season with an injury and getting his eligibility restored. He was preparing for his comeback in 2020 when the season ended prematurely due to the coronavirus pandemic.

Baseball 2019: Appeared in two games, making one start…Pitched seven innings, allowing six hits, two earned runs and two walks, while striking out six…Limited opponents to a .261 batting average and compiled a 0-1 record with a 2.57 ERA…Had three assists in as many chances for a 1.000 fielding percentage…Suffered the loss in a two-inning relief stint against Ripon College (March 18), allowing two hits and one earned run, while striking out two and notching one assist…Made his lone start of the season against Susquehanna University (March 27), working five innings of four-hit ball, while allowing one earned run and two walks…Struck out four and collected two assists.

Baseball 2018: Appeared in three games, starting two…Worked 10-2/3 innings, compiling a 1-0 record and a 3.38 ERA...Allowed 11 hits, eight walks and six runs (four earned), while striking out five…Made his collegiate debut in a four-inning start at Alvernia University (April 15), allowing three hits, five walks and two unearned runs, while striking out four…He didn’t get a decision in the Scarlet Raptors’ 8-4 loss…Hurled five innings of four-hit ball in a start against Misericordia (April 22), allowing two walks and three earned runs, while striking out one…Didn’t get a decision in that game either, which was won by Misericordia, 6-5…Earned a win for his first collegiate decision, working 1-2/3 innings in relief during a 10-7 Raptor win at York College of Pennsylvania (May 2)…Allowed four hits, one walk and one earned run in that game.

High School: Earned two varsity baseball letters at Clearview Regional High School for coaches Rocco Cornacchia and Rolando Gautier…Captured All-Conference Second Team honors as a senior.
