Biography

An impact player as a freshman, Kayla Newton started all 24 of her games and led the team with 28 blocked shots. She also added several academic honors.
 
Academics: Rutgers-Camden Athletic Director’s Honor Roll for the 2019 Fall and 2020 Spring semesters…Dean’s List student.
 
Basketball 2019-20: Started all 24 of her games…Led the team with 28 blocked shots…Finished third on the Raptors with 145 rebounds and a 6.0 rebounding average…Finished fifth on the team in scoring, both with 146 points and a 6.1 average…Finished fifth on the team with 23 steals…Added 13 assists…Shot 68-for-150 (.453) from the floor and 10-for-26 (.385) from the foul line…Made her collegiate debut in the season opener at Penn State-Schuylkill (Nov. 12), collecting her first of three double-doubles on the season (a season-high 16 points while adding 10 rebounds)…Scored in double figures on five occasions and added five games of 10 or more rebounds…Had a season-high five blocked shots against Penn State-Lehigh Valley (Nov. 15)…Collected a double-double of 10 rebounds and 10 points against Stockton (Dec. 4) while adding one of her four games with three blocks apiece…Had 10 points at William Paterson (Dec. 7), while adding four rebounds, two steals and one assist…Shot 6-for-10 from the floor, collected 12 points, three blocks, eight rebounds, one assist and one steal against The College of New Jersey (Jan. 4)…Notched 10 rebounds at Montclair State (Jan. 15)…Had her final double-double of the season with an outstanding performance at Kean (Feb. 1), scoring 12 points and hauling down a career-high 19 rebounds, including 15 off the defensive boards,
 
High School: Two-sport letterwinner in basketball and track at East Brunswick High School…All-Conference Second Team in basketball…Earned East Brunswick’s Athlete of the Month honor in basketball…Honor Roll during her junior year…Graduated in 2019.
 
Personal:  Born June 8, 2001…Loves hanging out with friends and going out…Social Work major at Rutgers-Camden who plans to receive her doctorate in social work so she can “work in hospitals and all over”…Kayla is the daughter of Marissa Colthirst of East Brunswick.
