Samantha Hoban has served as a team co-captain, collected numerous academic honors and etched her name onto the Rutgers-Camden women’s tennis career list in many categories over her three seasons with the Scarlet Raptors.
Playing at both the first and second positions for singles and doubles during her career, Hoban has posted an overall record of 49-39, including a 25-20 mark in singles and a 24-19 doubles record. Her 49 overall victories are tied for fifth on the program’s career list, while she ranks tied for fifth in singles victories and seventh in doubles wins. Her 10 career doubles wins with Laurel DiStefano rank eighth in program history.

Tennis Spring 2023: Posted a 6-5 record in singles and a 7-5 doubles mark for a combined 13-10 record during the spring…Served as a team co-captain along with Laurel DiStefano…Went 6-4 at second singles and 0-1 at first singles during the spring…Combined with Katie Moore for all of her matches at second doubles…Earned wins against Bryn Athyn College (March 31) at singles (6-2, 6-0) and doubles (8-0)…Also earned a pair of victories against Arcadia (April 10) at singles (6-4, 6-1) and doubles (8-4)…In a tri-match against Elizabethtown and King’s (April 16), swept Elizabethtown in singles (6-4, 6-2) and doubles (8-2) and split with King’s, winning in doubles (8-2) and losing in singles (2-6, 2-6)…In three consecutive New Jersey Athletic Conference matches against William Paterson (April 19), Ramapo (April 21) and Kean (April 22), won both her singles and doubles matches…Beat Paterson in singles (6-0, 6-0) and doubles (8-0), topped Ramapo in singles (6-2, 6-2) and doubles (8-2) and swept Kean in singles (6-3, 6-1) and doubles (8-2)…Dropped a hard-fought 2-6, 6-7 (4-7) singles match against New Jersey City (April 7)…In her lone match at first singles, lost against Salisbury (3-6, 2-6) on April 8…Lost 4-8 doubles decisions against both The College of New Jersey (March 26) and Salisbury.
Tennis Fall 2022: Posted a 1-4 record at second singles and a 3-2 mark in doubles (2-1 at second doubles with DiStefano and 1-1 at first doubles with Sarah Ahrens)…Posted her singles win against Cabrini (6-0, 6-0, Oct. 7)…Lost singles matches against Goucher (2-6, 2-6, Sept. 10), Bryn Mawr (7-5, 4-6, 6-10, Sept. 17), Moravian (1-6, 1-6, Oct. 8) and York by scores of 6-1, 4-6, 6-7 (5-7) on Oct. 15…At second doubles, teamed with DiStefano for wins against Goucher (8-2) and York (8-1) and a loss against Bryn Mawr (3-8)…At first doubles with Ahrens, beat Cabrini (8-0) and lost against Moravian (4-8).
Tennis Spring 2022: Finished her sophomore year with a 14-7 singles record and a 9-9 doubles mark for a 23-16 overall record…During the spring semester, went 5-5 at second singles and posted a 5-5 doubles record (1-0 at first doubles with Sarah Ahrens and 4-5 a second doubles with Laurel DiStefano)…Earned singles wins against Eastern (March 11, 6-3, 6-1), Bryn Athyn (March 19, 6-1, 6-0), William Paterson (March 26, 6-0, 6-1), Ramapo (April 15, 6-2, 6-1) and Kean (6-2, 6-0)…Two of her singles losses came against nationally-ranked and eventual New Jersey Athletic Conference champion The College of New Jersey, with one of them coming in the NJAC semifinals…Also dropped singles decisions against NJAC runner-up New Jersey City University, conference foe Stockton and non-conference power Ursinus…Her doubles play included wins and losses against the same opponents, including TCNJ twice…Earned 8-0 doubles wins against both Eastern and William Paterson in second doubles with DiStefano, as well as an 8-0 first doubles sweep with Ahrens over Bryn Athyn…Beat both Ramapo and Kean by 8-2 scores…Had a pair of tough back-to-back losses against Ursinus (7-8) and Stockton (6-8).
Tennis Fall 2021: Posted an overall singles record of 9-2, including a perfect 8-0 at second singles to be the lone Scarlet Raptor with a perfect dual mark in singles during the semester…Also went 1-2 in the B Singles competition at the Goucher College Invitational (Oct. 9-10), winning her first match against Immaculata (7-5, 6-2) and losing against Stockton (3-6, 0-6) and Ramapo (6-8)…In doubles competition, combined with Laurel DiStefano to post a 4-4 record (0-1 at first doubles, 4-3 at second doubles)…Swept through her dual match singles competitions with wins at FDU-Florham (Sept. 4, 6-4, 6-1), at Immaculata (Sept. 5, 8-3), against Goucher (Sept. 12, 6-3, 6-2), against Moravian (Sept. 18, 2-6, 7-6, 11-9), at York (Sept. 19, 4-6, 6-1, 6-3), at Bryn Mawr (Sept. 25, 6-4, 6-2), against Drew (Sept. 26, 7-5, 6-4) and against Cedar Crest (Oct. 16, 6-1, 6-0)…In doubles, combined with DiStefano for wins against Immaculata (8-1), Goucher (8-4), Drew (8-2) and Cedar Crest (8-3)…Had three straight narrow defeats against Moravian (7-8), York (6-8) and Bryn Mawr (5-8).
Tennis Spring 2021: Went 3-4 as a rookie playing the top singles position and also was 1-0 at second singles for a 4-4 overall singles mark…Played at the top doubles spot in all eight matches, going 5-3 overall (4-2 with LeAnne Hall and 1-1 with Tiffany Trivers)…Named New Jersey Athletic Conference Rookie of the Week on May 3…Won her first collegiate match at first doubles with Hall, taking an 8-7 decision against New Jersey City in the season opener (March 27) before losing at first singles (0-6, 0-6)…Won at singles (5-7, 3-4, retired) and first doubles with Hall (8-6) at Ramapo College (April 10)…Also won twice against Kean (April 17), taking her first singles match (6-1, 6-2) and first doubles with Hall (8-7)…After dropping a pair of matches against perennial conference champion The College of New Jersey on April 18 (0-6, 0-6 in singles and 0-8 in doubles), bounds back with two singes at William Paterson in singles (6-0, 6-1) and doubles (8-1 with Hall)…Dropped a pair of matches against Stockton University (April 22) at first singles (0-6, 2-6) and first doubles (0-8 with Hall)…Bounced back to win first doubles with Trivers (8-1) and second singles (6-0, 6-0) to help the Scarlet Raptors win their NJAC quarterfinal match against New Jersey City (May 1), earning her NJAC Rookie of the Week honor…Closed out the season in the NJAC semifinals at Stockton (May 6) with losses at first singles (2-6, 0-6) and first doubles with Trivers (2-8).
