Biography
A transfer who played one season at Gillette College, Salina Jones made her Rutgers-Camden debut during the 2021-22 scholastic year, playing a big role on the women’s basketball team and earning several academic honors.
Academics: New Jersey Athletic Conference Academic Honorable Mention for the 2021-22 scholastic year…Rutgers-Camden Athletic Director’s Honor Roll and Dean’s List student for the 2021 Fall and 2022 Spring semesters…One of only 26 athletes on the 142-member 2021 Fall AD Honor Roll to earn a perfect 4.0 GPA…One of only 26 athletes on the 119-member 2022 Spring AD Honor Roll to post a perfect 4.0 GPA.
Basketball 2021-22: Appeared in 14 games, starting 12…Averaged 5.9 points and 5.3 rebounds…Led the team with 17 blocked shots…Added 21 steals and 16 assists…Started her first game with the Scarlet Raptors in the season opener against Penn State-Lehigh Valley (Nov. 7), collecting four points, five rebounds, one assist, two steals and establishing her Raptor career high of three blocked shots…Scored in double figures on four occasions, with the first coming against Gallaudet (Nov. 27), when she notched 11 points, added seven rebounds, tied her high of three blocks, added two assists and set her high of four steals…Had a high of 10 rebounds against Stockton (Nov. 23) and set her scoring high of 13 points the second time the Raptors played Stockton (Jan. 19)…Followed her 13-point effort against Stockton by adding two more double-digit scoring games, netting 12 points against The College of New Jersey (Jan. 26) and 10 against Rutgers-Newark (Jan. 31)…Collected nine rebounds against Montclair State (Feb. 5) and added back-to-back eight-rebound games to close out the season against Kean (Feb. 12) and in a conference playoff game against Stockton (Feb. 19).
A transfer who attended both Gillette College (Gillette, Wyoming) and the Community College of Philadelphia, Salina Jones joins the Rutgers-Camden women’s basketball program this season.
Pre-Rutgers: Played one season at Gillette College (Gillette, Wyoming) in 2018-19, one year before the Pronghorns went 28-5, finished 21st nationally in NJCAA Division I and then watched as the district cut their athletic program…Jones appeared in 14 games as a freshman guard, averaging 2.9 points and 3.3 rebounds, while adding six assists, five steals and one block…Also attended the Community College of Philadelphia, which didn’t play a basketball season during the 2020-21 pandemic season.
High School: Basketball letterwinner for Coach Jamel Wellman at Olney Charter High School…Also played lacrosse and soccer…All-Conference First Team in basketball during her junior and senior years…Graduated in 2017.
Personal: Born October 13, 1998…Nicknamed “Lina”…Hobbies include camping, cooking, playing video games and traveling…Psychology major with a Health Sciences minor at Rutgers-Camden who plans to attend graduate school to pursue a career in organizational psychology and advertising…Salina is the daughter of Chelsea Henderson of Philadelphia.
