Biography
Nick Diaz developed into the Scarlet Raptors’ most consistent and tough-luck pitcher during his first year at Rutgers-Camden in 2022. He posted a 3.95 ERA and a deceptive 1-3 record in 54.2 innings. He also added several academic honors.
Academics: New Jersey Athletic Conference Academic Honorable Mention for the 2021-22 scholastic year…Rutgers-Camden Athletic Director’s Honor Roll and Dean’s List student for the 2021 Fall semester.

Baseball 2022: Made 10 appearances, with the final eight as a starter…Second on the team in starts and innings (54.2)…Allowed 61 hits and 34 runs, only 24 earned, for a 3.95 ERA…Had a 1-3 record and a .280 opponent batting average…Had a stellar walks/strikeout average, walking only nine while fanning 51…Collected one save…Made his Raptor debut with three scoreless innings against Oneonta (Feb. 27, Game One), allowing one hit and striking out two while earning his lone save…Worked three relief innings against Immaculata, allowing three hits, one walk and two earned runs, while striking out five…Made his first start in the opening game of a doubleheader against Wilson (March 8), allowing nine hits and two runs (only one earned) in five innings, while striking out four…Took the loss in the opener of a doubleheader against Mitchell (March 14), working 4.1 innings and allowing nine hits and five earned runs, while striking out four…Had no decision in a 5.2-inning outing against Keuka, allowing nine hits and five earned runs, while striking out 10…Earned a win over Ursinus College (March 31), pitching six innings and allowing four hits and three runs (two earned), while walking one and striking out seven…Pitched seven innings and allowed seven hits, two walks and six runs (five earned), while striking out seven against Rutgers-Newark (April 8)…Didn’t get a decision in the Raptors’ 3-2 loss at Stockton (April 14) while allowing only two unearned runs three walks and six hits…Worked 6.1 innings and struck out eight in that game…Pitched another great game, but took the loss in a 2-1 decision against Rowan (April 21), working 7.1 innings and allowing five hits, two earned runs and two walks, while striking out one…Took the loss in a 7-0 decision against The College of New Jersey (April 29), despite allowing only two earned runs out of the seven runs scored against him…Allowed eight hits and no walks, while striking out three.

Pre-Rutgers: Attended Rowan College at Burlington County, playing baseball during the fall semester.

High School: Earned three varsity baseball letters at Hamilton High School West, playing for Coach Mike Moceri…Also earned four varsity letters in hockey…As a junior in baseball, captured First Team All-Conference and Third Team All-State honors…Graduated in 2020.

Personal: Born December 21, 2001…Nicholas “Nick” Diaz”…Hobbies include video games, photography and hockey…Finance major at Rutgers-Camden…Following graduation, plans to get a job and hopefully have enough free time to be involved with a baseball program…Nick is the son of Robert J. Diaz II and Virginia M. Diaz of Hamilton.
