Biography
One of the great goalkeepers in Rutgers-Camden men’s soccer history, Sean Boen has captured three letters with that program, while also playing two spring semesters with the men’s tennis team.
A two-time All-New Jersey Athletic Conference goalie, Boen ranks among the program’s career goalie leaders with nine ties (third), a 1.06 goals-against average (fourth), 18 shutouts (tied for fourth), 568 shots faced (fifth), 19 wins (tied for seventh), 4,158:08 minutes played (eighth) and an .814 save percentage (eighth). He has made 214 saves and only allowed 49 goals.
Over the past two seasons, Boen has earned six honors as the NJAC Defensive Player of the Week and he also notched NJAC Rookie of the Week recognition as a freshman.
Soccer 2023: New Jersey Athletic Conference Second Team goalie…Three-time NJAC Defensive Player of the Week (Sept. 5, Oct. 2 and Oct. 16)…Posted four straight shutouts from Sept. 20-30 and three straight shutouts from Sept. 1-5 to open the season…Logged 477:39 consecutive scoreless minutes from Sept. 18-Oct. 3…Named Rutgers-Camden Raptor of the Week Oct. 2…Started 18 of the Scarlet Raptors’ 19 games, while posting an 8-7-3 record and 74 saves in 1,608:01 minutes…His 0.95 goals-against average was the seventh-best single-season GAA in program history…His eight shutouts tied for the sixth-most season shutouts in program history, matching the mark he set as a sophomore…Posted an .813 save percentage…Started the season with shutouts over Arcadia (4-0, Sept. 1, making one save), Eastern (2-0, Sept. 2, making three saves) and Neumann (1-0, Sept. 5, making four saves)…Collected five saves during a 5-4 win at Immaculata (Sept. 18), allowing only one goal while playing the first 78:01…Notched consecutive shutouts over Penn State-Abington (1-0, Sept. 20, five saves), William Paterson (2-0, Sept. 22, three saves), Ramapo (1-0, Sept. 27, five saves) and New Jersey City (1-0, Sept. 30, five saves)…Had a season-high 10 saves in a 1-1 tie against Rowan (Oct. 11)…Made eight saves in a 2-1 loss at The College of New Jersey (Oct. 25)…Out of his eight losses, four came by one goal, including 1-0 defeats against Haverford (Oct. 3) and Kean (Oct. 28 in the NJAC playoffs), and 2-1 losses against Stockton (Oct. 19) and TCNJ (Oct. 25)…Also suffered a pair of 2-0 defeats against Cabrini (Sept. 13) and Kean (Oct. 7 during the regular season)…In his three ties, Rutgers-Camden scored a total of two goals, posting a pair of 1-1 games and a 0-0 contest at Rutgers-Newark (Oct. 14) in which he made six saves…Faced a high of 21 shots in the Rowan game and 20 against The College of New Jersey.
Men’s Tennis Spring 2023: Compiled a 1-3 record in singles (0-1 at fourth singles and 1-2 at fifth singles) and an 0-4 mark in doubles (0-3 at first doubles, 0-1 at third doubles)…Played his first match of the season against SUNY-Oneonta (March 31), dropping a 1-6, 1-6 decision at fifth singles and teaming with Edward McWilliams Jr. to drop a 0-8 decision at first doubles…Earned his first tennis victory with a 6-1, 6-4 win at fifth singles against Neumann University (April 2), while losing a 1-8 decision at first doubles with teammate McWilliams…Lost a pair of matches against conference power The College of New Jersey (April 12), falling at fifth singles (1-6, 0-6) and at third doubles (0-8) while teaming with Patrick DeMareo…Lost at fourth singles (0-6, 1-4) and at first doubles with McWilliams (1-8) at Ramapo College (April 21).
Soccer 2022: New Jersey Athletic Conference Second Team goalie…Three-time NJAC Defensive Player of the Week (Oct. 3, Oct. 24 and Oct. 31)…Two-time Rutgers-Camden Raptor of the Week (Oct. 3 and Oct. 31)…Started 19 of the Scarlet Raptors’ 22 games…Played 1,717:17 minutes…Allowed 23 goals for a 1.21 goals-against average…Made 107 saves for an .823 save percentage…Posted eight shutouts, the sixth-highest single-season mark in program history…Had a 6-7-6 record…Tied a single-season program record with six ties, a mark set by David Cunningham in 2006…Out of his seven losses, the Scarlet Raptors were shut out five times and scored only one goal in the other two defeats…Out of his six ties, the team was shut out five times…Earned a shutout against Stevenson in a 0-0 tie (Sept. 11) without making a save…Collected three straight shutouts from Sept. 28-Oct. 5 in games against Ramapo (a 1-0 win Sept. 28 with a season-high 14 saves), New Jersey City (Oct. 1, a 1-0 win with seven saves) and Haverford (Oct. 5, a 0-0 tie with four saves)…Had four straight shutouts from Oct. 19-29 against Stockton (Oct. 19, a 0-0 tie with six saves), Montclair State (Oct. 22, a 0-0 tie with three saves), The College of New Jersey (Oct. 26, 1 3-0 win with six saves) and a 110-minute playoff game against Rutgers-Newark (Oct. 29, a 0-0 tie that Camden won on penalty kicks, with nine saves)…Including those shutouts, he produced a span of 412:57 consecutive shutout minutes from Oct. 15-Nov. 1…The first goal scored by Montclair State in a 2-1 loss in the NJAC semifinals (Nov. 1), broke Boen’s shutout string of 412:57…Had 12 saves in a 4-0 loss at Rowan (Oct. 12).
Men’s Tennis Spring 2022: Posted a 0-3 record in both singles and doubles in his first year with the men’s tennis program…Made his debut against Eastern University (March 11), losing 8-0 at both third singles and at second doubles, while teaming with Hani Qureshi…Dropped 6-0, 6-0 singles matches against SUNY-Oneonta (April 1) and The College of New Jersey (April 2), playing fourth and second singles, respectively…Also lost in doubles against Oneonta (second doubles) and TCNJ (first doubles), both by 8-0 scores while matched with Qureshi.
Soccer 2021: Played in 10 games, starting nine…Posted two shutouts and a 0.97 goals-against average in 832:50 minutes…Made 33 saves, faced 84 shots and allowed nine goals…Notched a .786 save percentage…Posted a 5-4-0 record…Made his collegiate debut starting in goal against Gwynedd Mercy (Sept. 5) and played all but the final 7:11, combining with Nick Schilling for a 7-0 shutout…He faced two shots and made the only save he was forced to make in winning his first game…Earned a win and his first shutout in a 1-0 victory over Immaculata (Sept. 21), facing three shots without needing to make a save…Faced 11 shots, made three saves and allowed one goal in a 1-0 loss at Haverford (Oct. 6)…Earned a 4-1 win over New Jersey City University (Oct. 16), making two saves…Made four saves in a 1-0 loss against Alvernia (Oct. 21)…Faced his season high of 19 shots, made his high of 13 saves and earned a 2-1 win over Rutgers-Newark (Oct. 23)…That performance earned him honors on Oct. 25 as the New Jersey Athletic Conference Men’s Soccer Rookie of the Week…Faced 12 shots and made four saves in a 3-0 loss against Rowan (Oct. 27)…Posted a 1-0 shutout over Springfield (Nov. 13) in the ECAC tournament, making three saves…Made three saves the next day, facing 16 shots, as the Raptors dropped a 2-0 decision against Muhlenberg in the ECAC semifinals.
