Biography

A three-year Scarlet Raptor letterman, Alex Scarlett returns for his final season at Rutgers-Camden. After starting his collegiate career mainly as a catcher, he has transitioned strictly to the mound, where he has made 12 appearances out of the Scarlet Raptors’ bullpen the last two seasons. He owns an 0-2 record and a 3.04 ERA in 23.2 career innings.
 
Baseball 2015: Worked 13.1 innings over seven appearances, compiling an 0-2 record and a 3.38 ERA…Allowed 15 hits, five walks and eight runs, five of them earned…Notched 11 strikeouts…Held opponents scoreless in five of his seven appearances…Started season working one inning against Wisconsin-Stevens Point (March 17), allowing two hits, one walk and three runs, two earned, while taking the loss in an 11-4 game…Worked one perfect inning against Rutgers-Newark in the nightcap of an April 4 doubleheader to nail down a 10-3 Raptor win, striking out the last two batters of the game…Hurled a scoreless inning in a 3-2 win over Baruch College (April 14), allowing one hit and striking out two…Pitched 2.1 scoreless innings in the second game of a twinbill at New Jersey City University (April 18), allowing two hits and one walk, while fanning one in a 15-5 Raptor win…Allowed two hits in a scoreless inning to combine with three other Rutgers-Camden pitchers in an 8-0 shutout against Eastern University (April 27)…Worked three perfect innings of relief in the Raptors’ 7-2 loss against Kean University in the New Jersey Athletic Conference playoffs (May 3), striking out four…That stint lowered his season ERA to 1.93…Finished the year with a 3.38 ERA after working four innings and taking the loss in a 13-12 game at Salisbury University (May 8), allowing eight hits, three walks and five runs (three earned)…Struck out two in that game.
 
Baseball 2014: Appeared in seven games, including five as a relief pitcher…Hit .333 (1-for-3) with two runs, two walks and a .600 on-base percentage…On the mound work 10-1/3 innings and posted a 2.61 ERA and one save…Had two walks and three strikeouts, while allowing 14 hits and three earned runs…Hurled scoreless ball over his first three collegiate mound appearances…Made his season debut as a pinch-hitter, going 0-for-1 against Worcester State (March 18)…His collegiate pitching debut came with one scoreless inning in a 9-5 win over Penn State-Abington (April 9), working the ninth inning and facing four batters, hitting one…Worked one-third of an inning, allowing one hit and striking out one, at DeSales University (April 14)…Hurled three shutout innings against Penn State-Brandywine (April 22), allowing two hits and one walk…Also went 1-for-2 with a walk and a run scored against Brandywine, getting his first collegiate hit on an eighth-inning single…Had a four-inning relief stint and picked up a save during a 9-4 win over Ramapo College (April 26, Game Two)…In that game he allowed five hits and one earned run, while striking out one and hitting one…Final appearance came with two innings of relief work against Castleton State (May 15) in a wild 18-11 NCAA tournament win…He allowed six hits, one walk and two earned runs, while striking out one.
 
Baseball 2013: Appeared in two games, going 0-for-2 (.000) at the plate and collecting three putouts…Had all three putouts while going 0-for-1 in his collegiate debut against John Jay College (April 2)…Went 0-for-1 in the second game of a doubleheader against Montclair State University (April 6).
 
High School: Four-year baseball letterman at Holy Spirit High School for Coaches Keith Gorman and Bob Soifer…Cape-Atlantic League Honorable Mention as a junior and a senior…National Honor Society.
 
Personal: Born September 13, 1994…Twin brother Chris also is a member of the Scarlet Raptors’ squad…Enjoys fishing and Nintendo 64…Was a member of Rutgers-Camden’s inaugural Athletic Director’s Honor Roll (Fall 2015 semester)…Economics major with a History minor at Rutgers-Camden…Alex is the son of Robert Scarlett of Galloway.
