Biography

Brett Yurgin has been an impact player in the New Jersey Athletic Conference from his freshman year in 2019, when he was named the NJAC Rookie of the Year and was selected as a member of the NJAC Second Team. In his 68 career games (67 starts) at Rutgers-Camden, Yurgin owns a .310/.375/.493 slash line with 49 RBIs and 50 runs. He has 14 doubles, six triples and nine home runs in his Scarlet Raptor career and, with 90 career hits, is on the verge of reaching the 100-hit club in 2022.
 
Yurgin’s .4931 career slugging percentage is the 12th-best mark in program history for all players with the NCAA career minimum of 200 at bats.

Baseball 2021: Started all 25 of his games, hitting .250 with 13 runs and a team-leading 23 RBIs…Started 17 games in right field and eight in center field…Had five doubles, three triples and two home runs…Led the team with seven stolen bases (10 attempts)…Defensively, posted a 1.000 fielding percentage with 73 putouts and four assists, giving him the third-highest single-season number of total chances (77) with a perfect fielding percentage in program history…Hit a third-inning grand slam against Stockton (April 22) for the first Raptor slam since Matt Yanick hit one against Ramapo in the opening game of a doubleheader on April 28, 2019…Finished the Stockton game going 2-for-4 with three runs and four RBIs…Added his first two collegiate pitching appearances, working a combined 1.2 innings and allowing one unearned run, going 0-1 despite a 0.00 ERA…Had a seven-game hitting streak from March 19-April 3 (10-for-34, .294, with two runs and nine RBIs) and a six-game string from April 22-30 (9-for-26, 346, with six runs and six RBIs)…Closed the season reaching base in 15 straight games, the longest streak on the team during 2021…Notched eight multiple-hit games (seven games with two hits, one with three hits)…Tied for the team lead with six multiple-RBI games (three games with two RBIs, one with three RBIs and a pair of four-RBI contests)…Went 3-for-5 with three RBIs against William Paterson (March 21, Game Two)…Went 2-for-4 with a home run, two runs and four RBIs against New Jersey City (April 10, Game Two)…Closed the season May 7 in the second game of a doubleheader against William Paterson in the NJAC playoffs, going 3-for-4 with a double, one run and one RBI…Had his season high of five putouts on two occasions, coming against New Jersey City (April 10, Game Two) and Montclair State (April 17, Game One).
 
Baseball 2020: Started all six of the Scarlet Raptors’ games as the designated hitter and No. 3 hitter in the lineup during a season shortened by the COVID-19 pandemic…Hit .440 with an .800 slugging percentage, leading all regulars in both categories…Also led the team with 11 hits, two home runs, three stolen bases (in four attempts) and 20 total bases…Tied for the club lead with 10 runs, three doubles and three walks…Added six RBIs…Had a .500 on-base percentage…Hit safely in five of his six games, including multiple hits in three of them and multiple runs scored in four…In the season-opening doubleheader at Immaculata (Feb. 23), went 2-for-4 with two runs, one RBI and a home run, while adding two stolen bases…In the nightcap, went 3-for-4 with a double, two runs, one RBI, one walk and one stolen base…That performance earned him honors as Rutgers-Camden’s Raptor of the Week on Feb. 24, making him the first honoree of the spring athletic season…Went 1-for-3 with one walk, one RBI and one run in the nightcap of a doubleheader with Oneonta (March 1)…Had a solo home run as he went 1-for-4 with one RBI, one walk and two runs against Ursinus (March 2)…Closed his abbreviated season with a huge game at Neumann (March 9), going 4-for-5 with two doubles, two RBIs and three runs.
 
Baseball 2019: New Jersey Athletic Conference Rookie of the Year…NJAC Second Team…NJAC Rookie of the Week April 8 and April 15…Played in 37 of the Raptors’ 38 games, starting 36…Hit .329 with 20 RBIs and a .497 slugging percentage…Led the Scarlet Raptors in at bats (161), triples (three), HBP (8) and stolen bases (11), while tying for the club lead in runs (27) and home runs (5)…Added six doubles and 53 hits…Compiled an 11-game hitting streak from April 8-20 (22-for-53, .415), the longest streak on the team during the season…Also had a seven-game hitting streak from March 26-April 6 (14-for-31, .452)…Had 15 multiple-hit games, the second-most on the team…Had six multiple RBI games, tied for the second-highest total on the Raptors…Had a huge 4-for-5 game with four runs, four RBIs and two home runs against Rutgers-Newark (April 4)…Had a 4-for-6 game against Rowan (April 11)…Went 4-for-5 with one run against Stockton (April 23)…Went 3-for-6 with two runs, three RBIs, one double and his first collegiate home run against Moravian (March 28)…Was 3-for-6 with one run and two RBIs against Montclair State (April 13, Game 2)…Also had a 3-for-5 game with two runs and one double against Stockton (April 18)…Compiled nine two-hit games…Defensively, compiled 84 putouts and four assists, including a game against Ripon (March 18) where he made seven putouts and added one assist.
 
High School: Baseball letterman at Clearview Regional High School…Graduated in 2018.
