Southpaw Chris Scarlett enters the final season of his four-year collegiate career, where he has fashioned a 3.54 earned run average, ranking him 10th on the Rutgers-Camden all-time list for all pitchers with a minimum of 75 innings pitched. He needs only six more innings to qualify for the list of pitchers with a minimum of 100 innings – with his current ERA, he would rank eighth on that list.
Scarlett, whose twin brother Alex also plays for the Scarlet Raptors, owns a 5-5 career record and 83 strikeouts over 94 career innings at Rutgers-Camden. He has appeared in 24 contests, making 18 starts and completing one game.
Baseball 2015: Made seven appearances, including three starts…Posted a 0-0 record and a 2.00 ERA in 18 innings…Allowed 18 hits and 12 walks, while striking out 16…Only four of the 12 runs he allowed were earned…Held opponents to a .257 batting average…Tied for ninth in the New Jersey Athletic Conference with two pickoffs…Made his first appearance of the season with a start against Wisconsin-Stevens Point (March 17), working 4-2/3 innings and allowing seven hits, one walk and four runs – only one earned – while striking out seven, without being involved in the decision…After a pair of one-inning relief appearances without allowing an earned run, made a start against Widener University (April 7), working six innings and allowing six hits and four runs, two of them unearned…Walked three and struck out four in the game, which was won by the Scarlet Raptors, 6-4…Started and worked 3-1/3 innings during the Raptors’ 3-1 victory over Stockton University (April 13), allowing three hits, one earned run and five walks, while fanning two…Closed season with a pair of one-inning shutout relief appearances against Eastern University (April 27) and York (PA) College (May 9), striking out one in each outing.
Baseball 2014: Led the Scarlet Raptors’ staff with nine starts – all of his appearances – and finished fourth on the squad with 40-1/3 innings pitched…Posted a 4-2 record and a 3.57 ERA…Walked 29 and struck out 37…Held opponents to a .258 batting average…Was named the William P. Carty Memorial Award winner as Rutgers-Camden’s Most Courageous Athlete for his contributions to the program despite dealing with Type 1 diabetes…Made his first appearance in the Raptors’ 5-2 victory over Widener (March 12), allowing two hits and two unearned runs in five innings with four walks and eight strikeouts, although he didn’t get the decision…Worked four innings of two-hit ball, walking five, striking out six and allowing two runs (one earned) in a no-decision start against Anderson (March 17)…Earned his first victory of the season with five strong innings in a 5-2 win over Trinity (March 22), allowing four hits and two earned runs, while walking five and striking out eight…Hurled five innings to pick up the win over FDU0-Florham (April 1), allowing five hits, three runs (one earned) and two walks, while striking out four…Suffered first loss despite not allowing an earned run, working 4-2/3 innings of three-hit ball, walking four, allowing a pair of unearned runs and striking out four in a 3-2 loss to Rowan (April 11)…Worked a season-high six innings to pick up a 6-3 win over The College of New Jersey (April 19, Game Two), allowing seven hits, three walks and three runs (two earned), while fanning five…Earned win in a 9-4 victory over Ramapo College (April 26, Game Two) with five innings of eight-hit ball, allowing three earned runs and three walks, while striking out five…Lost final start of the season at Rowan (May 3), working 4-2/3 innings and allowing six hits, two walks and five earned runs…That final start raised his ERA from 2.78 to a season-ending 3.57.
