One of the all-time career leaders in numerous categories for the Rutgers-Camden baseball program, Joe Sigismondi returns to the Scarlet Raptors this season as an assistant coach.

During his four-year career as a Scarlet Raptor infielder (2013-16), Sigismondi played in 143 games, third on the all-time list, and collected 152 hits (eighth). He set program records for hit by pitch (48) and sacrifices (21) and also ranks among the career leaders with 108 runs scored (sixth), 478 at bats (seventh), 23 stolen bases (tied for 13th), 52 walks (14th), 178 total bases (14th), 69 RBIs (15th), 21 doubles (tied for 18th) and a .318 batting average (25th). Defensively, he ranks ninth in total chances (641), sixth in assists (255), tied for seventh in double plays (53) and 13th in putouts (349).

All those stats would have been even higher if his junior season hadn’t been limited due to his recovery from arm surgery.

Sigismondi broke into collegiate baseball with a bang, earning a berth on the New Jersey Collegiate Baseball Association’s Division II/III All-Rookie Team in 2013. He was named the NJCBA Div. II/III Rookie of the Week on both March 25 and April 29, and added three honors as the New Jersey Athletic Conference Rookie of the Week (Feb. 25, March 25 and April 29).

During his sophomore season in 2014, Sigismondi captured NJAC Honorable Mention, was named to the NJCBA Div. II/III Third Team and was named both the NJAC and NJCBA Div. II/III Player of the Week on March 24.

Among single-season lists, Sigismondi ranks second and third on the program’s list for HBP (16 in 2014 and 15 in 2016). He also is tied for second in single-season sacrifices with eight in 2013, one shy of the team mark.

A three-year varsity baseball letterman at Highland Regional High School, Sigismondi earned All-Tri-County Conference First Team pitching honors in 2012, when he also tossed a no-hitter and participated in the Carpenter Cup. He was an All-Group 3 Honorable Mention player from the Courier-Post newspaper after hitting .465 and compiling a 3-1 record with seven saves during his junior year. As a senior, he hit .486 with 17 doubles, three triples, one home run, 24 RBIs, 16 runs scored and 34 stolen bases, while also going 5-2 with two saves, a 2.45 ERA and his no-hitter. Those stats earned him All-Gloucester County Times Second Team honors.

A Liberal Arts major who graduated from Rutgers-Camden in 2017, Sigismondi served as an assistant coach with the Gloucester Township American Legion program from March, 2014 through August, 2016. He helped lead the team to a pair of third-place finishes in New Jersey.
