The Braves posted a 79-41-1 record over that span and won the Group 4 South Jersey title in 2015. He was named the Coach of the Year in 2015 by both the Hot Stovers and the South Jersey Baseball Association.

Smith coached Delsea Regional High School from 2001-06, compiling a stellar 178-95-1 record that included the South Jersey Group 3 championship in 2005. He earned Coach of the Year honors that season. From 2007-11, Smith served as an assistant coach at Toms River South, helping that program post a 112-33 record. He was an assistant coach at Vineland High School during the 2013 and 2014 seasons as the Fighting Clan recorded a 35-16 log.

Smith currently serves as an assistant football coach at Delsea Regional, a position he held from 1998-2006 and from 2012 through the present time. Overall, he has helped coach six state championship teams during his multi-sport career.

Smith was a three-sport star at Delsea Regional High School, competing in football, wrestling and baseball before graduating in 1986. He played baseball at Gloucester County College (now Rowan College of South Jersey) before attending Rowan University. He graduated from the university in 1995 with a degree as a Teacher of the Handicap.

An Egg Harbor Township resident, Smith is a Special Education teacher at Delsea Regional High School.
