After a stellar collegiate pitching career with both Cumberland County College and Rowan University, Justin Smith joined the Rutgers-Camden coaching staff for the 2021 season.
Smith was a two-year captain at Cumberland County College, where he compiled an 18-1 record, ranking second on the program’s career list for victories. He was a member of the Dukes for three seasons, including a medical redshirt year during his second season. During that time his team was the Region 19 runner-up in both 2015 and 2016 before capturing the regional title in 2017 and finishing as the World Series runner-up. He hurled 128 innings during his Cumberland career.
Smith continued his baseball career at Rowan, where he helped the Profs win the 2018 New Jersey Athletic Conference title and finish as the 2019 Regional runner-up. Over his combined collegiate career, he posted a 23-5 record as a starter, compiling a 2.70 ERA in 215 innings with seven complete games and four shutouts. One of his complete games stands as the Rowan program record for the fastest game pitched (1:45).
He graduated from Rowan University in 2019 with a degree in Law and Justice Studies.
Prior to joining the Scarlet Raptors, Smith served as an assistant coach with the South Jersey Young Guns for two years.
During his Hammonton High School career, Smith was a four-year starter and a two-year captain, serving as both a pitcher and a designated hitter.
Smith works for Heritage Marble and Tile and resides in Atco.
