Mike Brown returns for his sixth season as an assistant coach at Rutgers University-Camden. In his five years under Raptor Head Coach Dennis Barth, Brown has helped turn around the school’s baseball program,  helping the team to four straight winning seasons. The 2014 team posted a 30-13-1 record on its way to a pair of firsts for Rutgers-Camden baseball: the team’s first New Jersey Athletic Conference regular-season title and first berth in the NCAA Division III Baseball Championship tournament.

The Scarlet Raptors repeated as the NJAC regular-season champion in 2015.

Brown served as an assistant coach for Barth’s teams at both Gloucester Catholic High School and has coached with the Brooklawn American Legion from 2006-2013, helping those programs to achieve national acclaim.

During Brown’s tenure at Gloucester Catholic, the Rams won Parochial B state titles in 2007, 2010 and 2011. They captured the Parochial A state title in 2012 during Brown’s final scholastic coaching season before joining the college ranks.

Brown also helped Brooklawn win state and regional championships from 2011-2014, earning a berth in the American Legion World Series each season. The team finished fifth nationally in 2011, was the national runner-up in 2012 and won the national title in 2013 and 2014.

Brown attended Clayton High School from 1979-81, earning eight varsity letters (three apiece in baseball and basketball and two in football) for the Clippers. He attended Kingsway Regional High School as a senior, graduating in 1982 after lettering in football, basketball and baseball. He went 11-0 and earned All-South Jersey honors as a pitcher on Kingsway’s Tri-County championship team in 1982.

Brown attended Kentucky Wesleyan College in Owensboro, Kentucky, from 1983-1986, majoring in Communications.

During his first year with the Scarlet Raptors, Brown coached first base, worked with the catchers and made defensive adjustments based on scouting reports of opponents. Rutgers-Camden posted a 23-19 record in 2013 for its first winning season since 2010.

Brown is employed as a union bricklayer with the BAC Local 5 of New Jersey. He and his wife Stephanie have three children – Jaclyn, who graduated from Alvernia University in 2013, and twins Cody and Casey who both played at Central Connecticut State University. Cody, who had a redshirt year, is back with the Blue Devils this season, while Casey is pitching in the Philadelphia Phillies organization.
