Rutgers-Camden Athletics

Steve Mondile joined the Rutgers-Camden baseball coaching staff in 2014 and his work ethic and expertise paid immediate dividends. By the time the Scarlet Raptors closed the campaign, they had wrapped up the first New Jersey Athletic Conference regular-season title and first NCAA Division III Baseball Championship tournament berth in program history. With a 30-13-1 record, they became only the second Rutgers-Camden team to ever post a 30-win season.
 
Rutgers-Camden repeated as the NJAC regular-season champion during Mondile’s second year on the staff in 2015.
 
Success is nothing new to Mondile, who returns for his sixth season with the Scarlet Raptors. An All-State pitcher during his scholastic days at Gloucester Catholic High School, he was named the Hot Stovers’ Player of the Year and earned All-State recognition in 1983 as a right-handed pitcher. He went on to become an All-American at Kentucky Wesleyan College in 1986, while earning the school’s Male Athlete of the Year honor that season. He was an All-Ohio Valley Conference player in both 1985 and 1986 and he went on to pitch professionally in the Baltimore Orioles organization.
 
Following his playing days, Mondile remained active in professional baseball as a scout with the Cincinnati Reds and Philadelphia Phillies organizations. He also was a Northeast Scouting Supervisor with the Florida Marlins (1997-2001) and the Cincinnati Reds (2002-03).
 
Mondile is active with Sportz Central in Bellmawr, and also has coached with the Brooklawn American Legion team, helping them win back-to-back national championships in 2013 and 2014.
 
Mondile was honored on Nov. 25, 2017 when he was inducted into the South Jersey Baseball Hall of Fame at the 58th annual Hot Stovers Baseball Club of South Jersey Awards Banquet.
 
Nicknamed “Snake,” Steve and his wife Teresa were married in 1994 and reside in Wenonah. They have three sons, Steven Jr. (age 21), Tyler (20) and Austin (14). Tyler was selected in the sixth round (168th pick overall) of the 2016 Major League Baseball First-Year Players draft by the Cincinnati Reds.
