Biography

One of the all-time great players in Rutgers-Camden baseball history, Danny Vazquez holds program records for career assists (375), double plays (89) and sacrifices (23), while serving as a team captain for three seasons and earning New Jersey Athletic Conference honors for both his play on the field and his work in the classroom.
 
Vazquez ranks fourth in program history for games played (150, while starting 149 of them), at bats (559) and runs scored (113). He is tied for sixth in sacrifice flies (8), ranks eighth in both hits (159) and total chances (701), is ninth in RBIs (88), 10th in stolen bases (28) and is tied for 12th in walks (57).
 
Vazquez has compiled a .284 career batting average, with a slugging percentage of .324 and an on-base percentage of .370.

Baseball 2024: One of four team captains…Started all 39 of his games…Hit .289 with 33 runs, 18 RBIs, six doubles, two triples and one home run…Had 13 walks and only 12 strikeouts…Reached base four times as a hit batsman…Notched a .375 slugging percentage and a .355 on-base percentage…Led the team with six sacrifices and tied for the lead with three sacrifice flies…Had 88 putouts and was second on the team with 93 assists…Made only three errors for a .984 fielding percentage…Tied for the team lead with 25 double plays, tied for the fifth-highest single-season DP mark…Tied for the team lead with 13 multi-hit games…Named Rutgers-Camden’s Raptor of the Week on March 11…Had his season-high 10-game hitting streak from Feb. 27 through March 14 (17-for-34, .500, with 10 runs, 10 RBIs, two doubles, one home run and a .647 slugging percentage)…Finished the season with a seven-game hitting streak April 22 through May 3 (9-for-26, .346, three runs, two RBIs)…Had his first career home run against Gwynedd Mercy (Feb. 27)…Went 3-for-4 with one run scored against York College (March 7)…Collected six RBIs in a 17-5 win over Oneonta (March 12), going 2-for-4 with a pair of two-run singles and a rare two-RBI sacrifice fly… Hit his first career triple at New Jersey City University (March 30, Game One)…Had a season high of four hits, going 4-for-6 with three runs and two RBIs with one double and one triple at The College of New Jersey (April 7)…Collected season highs of six putouts and nine total chances against Ramapo (April 20, Game Two)…Had season highs of five assists on three occasions.
 
Baseball 2023: Rutgers-Camden tri-captain for the second straight season…Started all 39 of his games and finished second on the team with a .286 batting average and 37 runs…Third on the team with 30 RBIs…Tied for third in doubles (6)…Tied for the team lead by reaching 13 times as a hit batsman…Struck out only nine times, while walking 20 times…Posted a .410 on-base percentage…Defensively, led the club with 92 assists and 23 double plays…Added 72 putouts and made only three errors for a .982 fielding percentage…Hit .318 (27-for-85) with runners on base, .323 (21-for-65) with runners in scoring position and .842 (16-for-19) with a runner on third base and less than two outs…Advanced 60 runners in 100 chances (.600)…Second on the team with 12 multiple-hit games and third on the team with seven multiple-RBI games…Had the Raptors’ longest hitting streak of the season with a 10-game streak from April 16-May 2 (13-40, .325)…Opened the season going 3-for-5 with a double, a walk, a stolen base, two runs and four RBIs against Delaware Valley (Feb. 23)…Followed that game with a pair of three-hit games against York (March 1) and FDU-Florham (March 4), going 9-for-15 (.600) to open the season and earn Rutgers-Camden Raptor of the Week honors on March 6…The next day, went 2-for-3 with one run and two RBIs in the opener of a doubleheader against Wilson before finally going hitless in the nightcap…Went 3-for-4 with a double, two walks, two runs and two RBIs against Ursinus (March 25, Game One), while adding one stolen base…Went 2-for-5 in the first game of a doubleheader at Ramapo (April 8), including a sixth-inning single for his 100th career hit…In a game against nationally-ranked Rowan (April 21), his leadoff HBP and stolen base in the ninth inning sparked a two-run game-tying rally and led the Raptors to an 8-7 10-inning win…In the nightcap of an April 22 doubleheader against William Paterson, went 2-for-4 with a double, a walk, one stolen base, four runs scored and three RBIs…Had a season-high five putouts against Immaculata (March 23) and highs of six assists and eight total chances against Salem State (March 17).
 
Baseball 2022: Served as the Scarlet Raptors’ tri-captain…Started all of his 39 games, mainly at second base…Despite an uncharacteristic .226 batting average, which dropped his career average to .281, he ranked among the team’s offensive leaders in numerous categories…Led the team in sacrifices (7), tied for first in sacrifice flies (2), finished second in stolen bases (8) and RBIs (20), placed third in at bats (137), was fifth in hits (31) and runs (19) and finished sixth in HBP (4)…Also walked 11 times and struck out only nine…Defensively, finished first on the team in double plays (23), second in assists (100) and fourth in putouts (74)…Had nine two-hit games and five two-RBI games…Had a five-game hitting streak (6-for-15, .400) from April 15-21…Collected a season-high six assists against Arcadia (April 19) and had a pair of games with five assists…Collected five putouts and four assists for nine total chances against Rutgers-Newark (April 11)…Three days earlier, against the same team, his two-out RBI single in the top of the 10th inning helped Rutgers-Camden post an 8-7 win…Went 3-for-8 with three runs, three RBIs and one walk in a doubleheader against Wilson (March 8).
 
Baseball 2021: All-New Jersey Athletic Conference Second Team at shortstop…Started all 27 Rutgers-Camden games, playing mainly at shortstop with a few starts at second base…Finished second among all regulars with a .337 batting average…Scored 14 runs and drove home 17…The only regular on the team to walk more than he struck out, compiling 101 at bats with 10 walks and nine strikeouts…Tied for the team lead with two sacrifice flies and three sacrifices…NJAC Rookie of the Week April 12…Compiled the longest hitting streak on the team with an 11-game string from April 8-24, going 21-for-41 (.512) with seven runs, 13 RBIs, one double, five walks, a .565 on-base percentage and a .537 slugging percentage…Tied for the team lead with 10 multiple-hit games (seven games with two hits and three games with three hits)…Tied for third on the team with five multiple-RBI games (four games with two RBIs and one game with three RBIs)…Tied for third on the team by reaching base safely in 11 straight games…Led the club with 75 assists and 14 double plays, while also adding 54 putouts…Went 3-for-5 with two RBIs against Rutgers-Newark (April 8, Game One) and added a 2-for-4 game with one RBI in the nightcap of the doubleheader…Collected three RBIs while going 2-for-5 against New Jersey City (April 10, Game Two)…Went 3-for-3 with one walk and three runs at Rowan (April 16)…Had a 3-for-5 game with a walk, two runs and two RBIs at Stockton (April 22)…Made a huge contribution to a NJAC playoff win against Rutgers-Newark (May 4), going 1-for-3 with a double and two RBIs, collecting one sacrifice and one sacrifice fly and notching five putouts and a season-high eight assists…Also had five putouts against Kean (March 27, Game Two).
 
Baseball 2020: Stepped into the Raptors’ starting shortstop job, playing in all six games and starting the last five during the short 2020 season, which was stopped by the coronavirus pandemic…Hit .400 with one double and three RBIs, while tying for the club lead with 10 runs and three walks…Led the team with three sacrifices and four double plays…Had a .467 slugging percentage and a .526 on-base percentage…Collected 12 putouts and tied for the team lead with 15 assists…Earned NJAC Rookie of the Week honors on Feb. 24 after playing in his season- and career-opening doubleheader against Immaculata (Feb. 23)…In the opening game, he was inserted as a pinch-runner in the seventh inning, scored a run and finished the contest at shortstop…Made his first career start as the Raptors’ shortstop in the nightcap, going 4-for-5 with one walk, four runs and one RBI…Was a central contributor to the Raptors’ program record-setting 12-run fifth inning in that game, collecting a single and an RBI walk in the frame, while scoring two runs…His first collegiate hit  came earlier in that contest with an infield single in the second inning…In the opener of a doubleheader against Oneonta (March 1), went 1-for-2 with two walks, one RBI and two runs, while notching three putouts and four assists at shortstop…Had five putouts and one assist at Ursinus (March 2), while going 0-for-2 with one HBP, one sacrifice and two runs…In the season’s final game, at Neumann on March 9, he went 1-for-3 with his first collegiate double, a sacrifice, one run and one RBI…Defensively in that game, had two putouts and three assists.
