Biography

Ethan Carpenter capped his stellar Rutgers-Camden career in 2025, helping the team capture the first New Jersey Athletic Conference championship in program history. Carpenter led the Scarlet Raptors’ staff with seven wins and 12 starts. He finished his four-year Scarlet Raptor career pitching in 36 games, making 31 starts, and posting a 17-8 record. His 17 wins are tied for the third-highest total in program history, one shy of the record shared by two players. He also ranks among the program’s career leaders with 744 at bats (sixth) and 185 innings pitched (ninth).
 
A stellar student as well, Carpenter earned New Jersey Athletic Conference Academic First Team honors for the 2022-23 scholastic year and has captured numerous spots on the Dean’s List and the Rutgers-Camden Athletic Director’s Honor Roll.

Baseball 2025: Served as one of the Scarlet Raptors’ four team captains…Led the team with seven wins, tied for the third-highest single-season total in program history…Also led in games started (12) and finished second in innings (67.2)…Posted a 7-3 record and a 5.05 ERA…Allowed 92 hits and 42 runs (38 earned)…Walked 24 and struck out 39…Was the Scarlet Raptors’ opening-day starter, working 5.2 innings and earning the win in an 11-4 victory over Immaculata (Feb. 22, Game One)….He allowed six hits and two earned runs, while striking out eight…Defeated Swarthmore (March 1), pitching five innings of three-hit shutout ball, while walking one and striking out five…Defeated nationally-ranked Cortland (March 9), working five innings and allowing seven hits and three runs (two earned), while walking one and striking out six…Had no decision in the Raptors’ 9-7 win over Mount Union (March 15), working 4.2 innings and allowing nine hits, four runs (three earned) and three walks, while striking out three…Suffered his first loss against nationally-ranked Denison (March 21), working 5.2 innings of seven-hit ball, allowing four earned runs and two walks, while fanning three…Didn’t get a decision in the Scarlet Raptors’ 4-3 conference-opening win over New Jersey City (March 29, Game One), working 5.2 innings and allowing nine hits and three earned runs, while walking two and striking out five…Lost to nationally-ranked Kean (April 5, Game One), allowing 11 hits and six earned runs in 5.1 innings while walking one and striking out five…Beat Rutgers-Newark (April 13, Game One), working six innings and allowing eight hits, four earned runs and two walks, while striking out one…Hurled five-hit ball over seven innings in a win over Stockton (April 18), allowing two earned runs and six walks…Defeated Montclair  State (April 24) with a seven-hitter over seven innings, allowing three earned runs and one walk…Defeated nationally-ranked Rowan (May 7) in the NJAC tournament winners’ bracket final, allowing 11 hits and six runs (four earned) over 5.2 innings, while walking two…Lost his final start in the NCAA Baltimore Regional against Rensselaer (May 17), allowing nine hits, three walks and five earned runs in five innings, while striking out three.
 
Baseball 2024: One of four team captains…Led the team in starts (11), innings (67) and strikeouts (53)…Tied for the team lead in wins while posting a 5-2 record…Had a 3.90 ERA…Walked only nine batters in his 67 innings, while striking out 53…Had 15 assists, with highs of four against both New Jersey City (March 30) and Kean (April 6)…Posted a win over powerful Immaculata in the season opener (Feb. 24), working six innings of four-hit shutout ball, while walking one and striking out five…The outing earned him honors as Rutgers-Camden’s Raptor of the Week on Feb. 26…Beat Penn State-Abington (March 1), working six innings, allowing seven hits and three earned runs and striking out eight…Also stuck out eight in a seven-inning outing against Ripon (March 10), allowing six hits, one walk and one earned run in a game the Raptors eventually won, 3-2…Raised his record to 3-0 by working 6-2/3 innings against Bowdoin (March 16), allowing six hits, one walk and five runs (only two earned), while striking out six in a 6-5 victory…Didn’t get a decision despite an outstanding start at Ursinus (March 24), working six innings and allowing four hits and one unearned run, while striking out three…Beat New Jersey City (March 30), 5-4, by hurling 6-2/3 innings, allowing eight hits and three earned runs, while striking out three…Didn’t get a decision in the Raptors’ 6-5 win over Kean (April 6), working six innings and allowing eight hits, two walks and five earned runs…Had three strikeouts…Suffered his first loss against Rowan (April 12), allowing 11 hits and seven runs (four earned) in four innings, while walking one and fanning two…Had no decision in the Raptors’ 9-8 win over Ramapo (April 20), working 6-2/3 innings and allowing nine hits and six earned runs, while fanning five…Beat Montclair State (April 26) by working seven innings, striking out four and allowing seven hits, one walk and one earned run…Lost his final game against The College of New Jersey in the NJAC playoffs (May 3), allowing eight hits and five runs (four earned) in five innings, while walking two and striking out six.


Baseball 2023: Started all eight of his games, posting a 5-3 record and a 3.72 ERA in 46 innings…Walked 11 and struck out 24…Opponents hit .270 against him…Allowed 48 hits and four hit batsmen…Lefties hit .188 (6-for-32) and righties hit .288 (42-for-146) against him…Defensively, had one putout, nine assists and one error in 11 chances for a .909 fielding percentage…Also turned one double play…Opened the season working 4-1/3 innings in a five-inning Raptor win over Wilson (March 7, Game Two), allowing three hits, one walk and one earned run, while fanning three to earn a 6-1 victory…Raised his record to 2-0 in a 17-2 win over Plymouth State (March 15), working seven innings without a walk, striking out six, and allowing four hits and only one earned run…Worked eight shutout innings in a 5-0 win over Ursinus (March 25, Game Two), allowing four hits and three walks, while striking out six…The performance earned him NJAC Pitcher of the Week honors on March 27…Worked four innings in a 5-3 loss at Kean (April 1, Game Two), allowing eight hits and five runs, only three earned, without a walk or strikeout…Beat Ramapo (April 8, Game Two) by working seven innings of six-hit ball, allowing only one earned run and one walk, while fanning two in a 3-1 victory…Lost at Stockton (April 14). allowing six runs (five earned), five hits and two walks in five innings, while striking out two…Beat William Paterson (April 22, Game One) by scattering seven hits and two walks over six innings, allowing three runs (only two earned) and striking out three…Lost his last outing of the season against The College of New Jersey (May 1), working 4-2/3 innings in a 6-3 defeat. allowing 11 hits, two walks and six earned runs, while striking out two.
 
Baseball 2022: Hurled 4.1 innings over five relief appearances…Allowed eight hits, six walks and six earned runs for a 12.46 ERA…Struck out three…Made his Raptor debut against Plattsburgh State (March 16), allowing one hit and one walk in one scoreless inning…Had one of his two longest outings of the season against Ramapo (April 9, Game One) with 1.1 innings, allowing one hit, three walks and two earned runs, while collecting his first Rutgers-Camden strikeout…Also worked 1.1 innings against The College of New Jersey (April 28), allowing three hits, two walks and three earned runs, while striking out two.
 
Pre-Rutgers: Played two years of baseball at the Camden County College…Appeared in eight games and 14.2 innings in 2021.
 
High School: Earned three varsity baseball letters at Gloucester City High School, playing for Coach Greg Galbraith, a former Rutgers-Camden pitcher…Also captured two varsity letters in bowling…Earned Tri-County Conference Second Team baseball honors as a senior in 2019.
