Rutgers-Camden Athletics

Jesse Gerdes transferred to Rutgers-Camden for the 2020 baseball season, only to see that campaign limited to six games by the COVID-19 pandemic. He played 59 games over the past two seasons, starting 58. The Scarlet Raptors’ shortstop during the 2022 campaign, he finished his Rutgers-Camden career with a .258 batting average, while ranking among the career defensive leaders with 166 assists (16th) and 20 double plays (25th).

Baseball 2022: Played in 33 games, starting 32…Served as a tri-captain for the Scarlet Raptors…Hit .205 with 13 runs and 15 RBIs…Had six doubles, five walks and six HBP…Led the team with 114 assists, while adding 41 putouts…Third on the team with 16 double plays…Had five multi-hit games, including a game against Rutgers-Newark (April 8) in which he went 3-for-4 with a double, two runs, one RBI on a sacrifice fly, two putouts and three assists…Had four multiple-RBI games, including three against Ursinus (March 31)…Posted a seven-game hitting streak from March 17 through April 2 (Game One), when he hit .308 (8-for-26)…Had eight assists in back-to-back games during a doubleheader at Ramapo College (April 9), two shy of the single-game program record for assists.
 
Baseball 2021: Played in 26 of the Scarlet Raptors’ 27 games, starting all 26…Made five starts at catcher, three at second base, eight at shortstop and 10 as the designated hitter…Hit .317 with a .366 slugging percentage and a .407 on-base percentage…Tied for the team lead with 19 runs scored and finished second with 11 HBP…Had two doubles, one home run and 14 RBIs…Walked five times and struck out 20…Tied for the club lead with three sacrifices, while also adding one sacrifice fly…Notched 39 putouts and finished second on the team with 45 assists…Helped to turn three double plays…Made three errors for a .966 fielding percentage…Tied for the team lead with 10 multiple-hit games (eight two-hit games and a pair of three-hit games)…Had four multiple-RBI games, including three contests with two RBIs and one game with three RBIs…Had his season-high five-game hitting streak from March 27-April 8 (6-for-21, .286)…Added four-game hitting streaks March 19-26 (5-for-15, .333) and May 1-7 (7-for-20, .350)…Reached base safely in 14 straight games, the second-longest streak on the team during the season…Went 3-for-5 with two walks, two runs and one RBI at Stockton (April 22)…Went 3-for-5 with one HBP, three runs and two RBIs at The College of New Jersey (April 30)…Had three RBIs, while going 1-for-4 with a sacrifice at Kean (March 27, Game Two)…Went 2-for-5 with one run, one HBP and two RBIs against William Paterson (April 3, Game One) and 1-for-4 with a sacrifice fly and two RBIs against Rutgers-Newark (April 8, Game Two).,,Had a season high of seven putouts against New Jersey City (April 10, Game Two)…Collected his season high of seven assists, while playing shortstop, at Montclair State (April 17, Game One).
 
Baseball 2020: Started all six games in the abbreviated 2020 season, including three at third base, two at catcher and one at shortstop…Hit .273 with two doubles, seven runs and five RBIs…Tied for the team lead with three walks and tied for second on the team by reaching twice as a hit batsman…Had a .364 slugging percentage and a .393 on-base percentage…Tied for first on the club with one sacrifice fly…Finished second in putouts (21) and added seven assists (third on the team) and one double play…In a season-opening doubleheader split against Immaculata, went 0-for-5 with three runs, one RBI on a sacrifice fly, two walks and one HBP, while adding 14 putouts and four assists…Collected his first Raptor hit with a RBI double in the sixth inning in the opener of a doubleheader against Oneonta (March 1)…In the nightcap, went 2-for-2 with two runs, one walk and one RBI…Went 1-for-5 with a double and two RBIs against Ursinus (March 2) and closed the season going 2-for-5 with two runs at Neumann (March 9).
 
Pre-Rutgers: A member of the Wilkes University baseball team in 2019…Appeared in three games, going 0-for-2 at the plate and collecting four putouts…Had two putouts apiece against Muhlenberg (March 20) and Manhattanville (April 7)…Also played against Immaculata (April 9).
