Biography

John Griffin made his return to collegiate baseball in 2015 after a year away from the game. In his comeback season, he captured his first two collegiate victories while starting two of his seven games.
 
Baseball 2015: Appeared in seven games, starting two and working 19-2/3 innings…Posted a 2-2 record with a 5.95 ERA…Allowed 18 hits and six walks, while striking out 13…Held opponents to a .265 batting average…Tied for 23rd in the New Jersey Athletic Conference with one pickoff…In his comeback game, worked three relief innings and took the loss against SUNY-Cortland (March 16), allowing two walks, one hit, one hit batsman and four earned runs, while striking out two…Cortland went on to win the 2015 NCAA Division III national championship…Faced Wisconsin-Whitewater (March 21), the defending 2014 national champion, in his second outing, lasting one-third of an inning and allowing four hits and four earned runs, taking the loss…The rest of the season, in five appearances and 16-1/3 innings, he compiled a 2.76 ERA…Worked one scoreless, hitless inning of relief against Rutgers-Newark (April 4, Game Two), while striking out one…Turned in 5-2/3 scoreless relief innings of two-hit ball against Stockton University (April 13), striking out three, while earning his first collegiate win in a 3-1 Raptor victory…Earned his second win of the season while making his first start, coming against New Jersey City University (April 18, Game Two)…In that game worked 5-2/3 innings, allowing eight hits, two walks, four runs (three earned) and striking out a career high six…Started and worked three innings against Kean University (April 25, Game Two) as the Scarlet Raptors clinched the regular-season New Jersey Athletic Conference title with a 3-2 win…Allowed three hits, one walk and two earned runs, while fanning one…Closed the season with a scoreless, hitless inning of relief against York (PA) College (May 9), walking one batter.
 
Baseball 2013: Appeared in seven games, starting two…Posted a 0-3 record in 27-1/3 innings, but had a 2.96 ERA, the second-best mark on the team…Allowed 25 hits, 11 runs (nine earned) and six walked, while striking out 13…Held opponents to a .250 batting average…Made collegiate debut pitching one inning against John Jay College (April 2), allowing two hits, one earned run and one walk, while striking out one…Hurled 1-2/3 hitless, scoreless innings against Rowan University (April 11), striking out two…Allowed two hits and one earned run, while fanning two, in a two-inning appearance against DeSales University (April 16)…Worked 4-1/3 innings of relief, allowing only two hits, one walk and one earned run, but took the loss against Richard Stockton College (April 18),…Struck out three in that game…Took another tough loss against The College of New Jersey (April 21, Game One) despite allowing only five hits and one earned run in six innings of relief, while striking out one…Made first start at Ramapo College (April 27, Game One), but didn’t get a decision in the Raptors’ 5-3 win…Worked five innings and allowed five hits, three runs (only one earned) and four walks, while striking out one…Closed the season with a start and took the loss in a 6-0 defeat at St. John Fisher (May 12)…Worked a career-high 7-1/3 innings, allowing nine hits and four earned runs…Tied his season high with three strikeouts.
 
High School: Earned three varsity baseball letters at Kingsway Regional High School, playing for Coaches Ian Enders, John Green and Dennis Burlingame…All-Conference Honorable Mention in 2011 and All-Conference First Team as a senior shortstop.
 
Personal: Born November 20, 1993…Nicknamed “Griff”…Superstition is to wear a glove that he has had since fourth grade because he feels it’s lucky…Childhood Studies major at Rutgers-Camden with a minor in Accounting…Plans to teach and coach high school baseball at Kingsway Regional…John is the son of John and Denise Griffin of Swedesboro.
