Biography

Nolan Gerold established himself as one of the finest players in the New Jersey Athletic Conference during his sophomore year. After hitting .385 and setting Rutgers-Camden’s single-season assist record with 131, he earned NJAC First Team and ABCA/Rawlings Mid-Atlantic Region Third Team recognition.
 
Gerold, who returns for his third season as the Scarlet Raptors’ shortstop, has compiled a .325 career batting average through his first two collegiate seasons. He ranks 10th on the all-time program list for assists (241) and 12th for double plays (38).
 
With 92 career hits, Gerold needs only eight to become the 34th player in program history to reach the 100-hit milestone.

Baseball 2018: New Jersey Athletic Conference First Team…ABCA/Rawlings All-Mid-Atlantic Region Third Team…NJAC Player of the Week on both March 5 and April 9…Rutgers-Camden Raptor of the Week on March 5…Led the club with a single-season program record of 131 assists, passing the mark of 129 set by Kyle Ballay in 2010…Tied for the club lead with 21 double plays…Played in 42 of the team’s 43 games, starting all 42 at shortstop…Finished second on the team with a .385 batting average and third in slugging at .474…Fourth in on-base percentage at .431…Collected 60 hits, only the eighth player in program history to reach that plateau in one season…Third on the team with 33 runs, third with 84 total bases and fifth with 29 RBIs…Tied for third on the Raptors with nine doubles…Added one triple, one home run, 13 walks and two HBP…Tied for third on the team with five sacrifices and tied for second with three sacrifice flies…Added 59 assists…Finished third on the team with 19 multi-hit games, including a 4-for-5 game with one double, one RBI and three runs at Stockton University (April 19)…Added one putout and his season high of eight assists in that contest…Had five three-hit games, beginning with a 3-for-4, two-RBI, three-run contest at Johns Hopkins (March 3)…Went 3-for-6 with a double, one stolen base and two RBIs at Neumann University (April 18)…Was 3-for-4 with two runs in a pair of games against Kean University (April 26 and April 29), adding one RBI in the second contest…Went 3-for-5 with one run, one walk and one stolen base at York College of Pennsylvania (May 2)…Had five or more assists in 11 games…Collected multiple RBIs in nine games, tied for the third-highest mark on the team…Had a 10-game hitting streak to end the season (April 26-May 11), going 18-for-38 (.474) in that stretch to raise his average from .356 to his season-ending .385…On April 6, his two-out RBI single in the fourth inning drove home the lone run of the game as the Scarlet Raptors edged No. 10/14-ranked The College of New Jersey, 1-0…Gerold went 2-for-3 in that game.
 
Baseball 2017: Started all 38 of the Raptors’ games at shortstop…Hit .252 with 16 RBIs and 16 runs scored…Led the team with four sacrifice flies and 110 assists, while tying for the club lead with four sacrifices…His four sacrifice flies tied for the fifth-highest single-season mark in program history…His 110 assists are tied for the seventh-highest single-season mark in program history…Finished second on the team with 17 double plays, a mark tied for 25th-highest single-season total in program history…Tied for second on the team with nine doubles and added one home run…Had 10 walks and tied for third on the club with five HBP…Had a .346 slugging percentage and a .322 on-base percentage…Notched 62 putouts…Made his first collegiate start in the Raptors’ season opener against Mitchell College, going 1-for-4 with one run, three putouts and two assists…His first collegiate hit was an eighth-inning double to right field, setting up his first collegiate run scored…Opened the campaign with a five-game hitting streak (5-for-17, .294), one of two five-game skeins he had during the season…Had six multiple-hit games, with his first being a 2-for-4 game against traditional Division III power Eastern Connecticut State University (March 15), when he added one double, one run and one RBI…Had four multiple-RBI games, including a game against Wheaton (Mass.) College on March 17 when he went 3-for-4 with two doubles, two runs and two RBIs…That game started a three-game hitting streak (5-for-10, .500)…Collected his first collegiate home run, a two-run shot in the second inning, against Stevens Institute of Technology (March 29)…Had his best offensive game in the nightcap of a doubleheader against Rutgers-Newark (April 8), going 4-for-5 with two doubles, one run and three RBIs…Went 3-for-3 with a double, one HBP and one run scored at Rowan University (April 14)…Had two-hit games against Kean University April 28 (2-for-3, one double, one run) and in the nightcap of a doubleheader at New Jersey City University April 29 (2-for-5, one run, one RBI)…Closed the season with his second five-game hitting streak (7-for-20, .350)…Defensively, had a huge day at Kean University April 27, notching two putouts and nine assists to come within one assist of Rutgers-Camden’s single-game program mark…Had a seven-assist game in the opener of a doubleheader with Ramapo College (April 15).
 
High School: Four-year baseball letterman at Camden Catholic High School for Coach Bob Bergholtz…Named to the Philadelphia Inquirer’s All-South Jersey First Team in 2016…All-Conference First Team…Also a member of the 2016 Carpenter Cup Team…As a junior, earned All-Conference Second Team honors.
