Sidelined by an injury throughout the 2023 season, R.J. McGettigan returned to earn one last career start and get his final at bat in a Rutgers-Camden uniform on Senior Day.
During an injury-riddled career, McGettigan played in 61 games, starting 47, and hitting .207 with 18 runs and 16 RBIs. A stellar defensive first baseman, he posted a .990 career fielding percentage, collecting 181 putouts and nine assists, while participating in 18 double plays.
McGettigan also served as a team tri-captain and earned numerous academic honors.

Baseball 2023: Sidelined by an injury, but made his final Raptor appearance on Senior Day, starting as the designated hitter and striking out in his lone at bat against The College of New Jersey (April 27).
Baseball 2022: Served as one of the Scarlet Raptors’ tri-captains…Played in 31 games, starting 25…Hit .243 with 10 RBIs and seven runs…Had 15 walks and reached base twice as a hit batsman, helping him compile a .382 on-base percentage…Tied for the club lead with two sacrifice flies and also added one sacrifice…Had a perfect fielding percentage of 1.000, making 47 putouts in as many chances…Had five multi-hit games, including a big day against Rutgers-Newark (April 8), going 3-for-3 with one double, one HBP, one sacrifice, two runs and one RBI…Went 1-for-2 with a walk and three RBIs against Wilson (March 8, Game Two) for one of his two multiple-RBI games…Also had two RBIs, while going 2-for-3 with two walks, against Keuka (March 19)…Had a three-game hitting streak from March 8 (Game Two) through March 14 (Game One), going 4-for-8 (.500).
Baseball 2021: Played in 15 games, starting 10 (seven at first base and three as the designated hitter)…Hit .222 (8-for-36) with six runs and two RBIs…Had one double for a .250 slugging percentage…Walked seven times, struck out 13 times and was hit by one pitch…Had a .364 on-base percentage…Defensively, had 53 putouts, three assists and one error in 57 chances for a .982 fielding percentage…Helped to turn five double plays…Had a five-game hitting streak from April 3-15 (6-for-16, .375, with three runs)…Went 1-for-3 in the season opener at New Jersey City (March 19)...Went 2-for-3 with two walks, two runs and a season-high 13 putouts at Rutgers-Newark (April 8, Game One)…Went 1-for-2 with two RBIs against Montclair State (April 17, Game One).
Baseball 2020: Played in two games, going 0-for-3 and notching a 1.000 fielding average (five putouts in five chances) with one double play during the pandemic-shortened season…Went 0-for-1 in the nightcap of a doubleheader against Immaculata (Feb. 23) after entering the game as a defensive replacement at first base…Notched two putouts in that game…Had three putouts and went 0-for-2 as a pinch-hitter and first baseman in the opener of a doubleheader against Oneonta (March 1).
Baseball 2019: Appeared in 12 games, starting 11 at first base, before suffering a season-ending injury…Hit .143 with a .250 on-base percentage…Had five runs and four RBIs…Had four walks and reached base once as a hit batsman…Defensively, had 76 putouts, six assists seven double plays and one error for a .988 fielding percentage…Went 1-for-3 with one run, one walk and one RBI in his first collegiate game, while starting at first base against Lynchburg (March 15, Game 1)…Had six putouts and two assists in that game…Went 0-for-3 with two runs, one HBP and one RBI in the nightcap of that Lynchburg doubleheader, adding seven putouts…Had his high of 10 putouts (in 10 chances) against Ripon (March 18), while going 1-for-4 with one run and one sacrifice…Went 1-for-3 with one RBI and one sacrifice against Westminster (March 22), adding nine putouts without an error…Had nine putouts and one assist in 10 chances against Hamilton (March 23), going 1-for-3 with one walk.
