As Tyler Travis enters his junior year, he has firmly established himself as one of the top catchers in the New Jersey Athletic Conference. In his first season as the Scarlet Raptors’ starting catcher, Travis earned All-NJAC Second Team honors after hitting .336 with 32 runs, 12 RBIs and a team-leading 29 walks. Defensively, he finished second on the club with 264 putouts while compiling a .979 fielding percentage.

Travis answered the season-opening bell in style, ripping off a 15-game hitting streak to start the season. His steak ended up tying for the longest string on the club in 2018.

Travis brings a .332 career batting average into his junior season, a mark that ranks 19th in program history among all players with the NCAA minimum of 200 at bats. His career on-base percentage of .434 ranks seventh on the program’s career list and his 317 putouts are the 19th-highest career total at Rutgers-Camden.

Baseball 2018: New Jersey Athletic Conference Second Team…Hit .336 while playing in 41 games, with 40 starts as the Raptors’ catcher….Fifth on the team with 32 runs scored…Had 12 RBIs and three doubles…Compiled a .356 slugging percentage and a .448 on-base percentage…Drew a team-leading 29 walks, a total that ranks third on the list of Rutgers-Camden single-season records, only three shy of the program mark…Finished second on the team with six sacrifices and added one sacrifice fly…Added three stolen bases…Defensively, his 264 putouts were the 10th-highiest single-season total in program history…Added 22 assists and only six errors for a .979 fielding percentage…Opened the season with a 15-game hitting streak (25-for-56, .446), tied for the longest hitting streak on the 2018 Scarlet Raptors…In the game that snapped his hitting streak (April 5 against The College of New Jersey), he went 0-for-2, but walked twice to extend his streak to 16 games reaching base safely…His hitting streak included nine of his 16 multiple-hit games during the season, including a 3-for-5 game with one double and two RBIs against FDU-Florham (March 27)…Went 3-for-4 with one run and two sacrifices, while catching Ian Scheidemann’s five-hit shutout as the Raptors defeated No. 3/7 nationally-ranked Rowan University (April 12)…Went 4-for-5 with two runs and one stolen base against Stockton University (April 19)…Had double-digit putouts in seven games, including a season high of 13 against Anderson (March 15) and double digits in four straight games from March 28-April 5…Collected two assists apiece against Webster (March 13) and Rutgers-Newark (April 7, Game One)…Had three-walk games in that Rutgers-Newark contest and against Neumann University (April 18), when he scored four runs.

Baseball 2017: Played in 21 games, starting 15…His .321 (18-for-56) with one double…Had eight runs scored and five RBIs…Walked seven times and posted a .339 slugging percentage and a .397 on-base percentage…Added two sacrifices…Collected 53 putouts, 16 assists and two errors for a .972 fielding percentage, while taking part in three double plays…Of his 15 starts, eight came at third base, six at catcher and one in right field…Went 3-for-4 on stolen base attempts…Made his collegiate debut off the bench against Washington University (Missouri) on march 12, playing third base and going 0-for-2…Had his first start as a catcher against Endicott (March 14), going 2-for-4 with a walk, a run, eight putouts and one assist…His first collegiate hit, coming in that game, was a second-inning single through the right side of the infield…Had his first collegiate double and first sacrifice against Eastern Connecticut State University (March 15), going 1-for-2 as the starting catcher…Went 1-for-3 with one run, two walks and is first collegiate RBI against Rutgers-Newark (April 8, Game Two), while adding his season high of 14 putouts…Had a great doubleheader against Montclair State University April 23 while starting both games at third base and going a combined 4-for-7 with two stolen bases, getting two hits and one steal in both games…Had a five-game hitting streak (9-for-18, .500) from April 28-May 3, including a 2-for-5 game with one run, one RBI and one steal in the opener of an April 29 twinbill against New Jersey City University…Went 2-for-4 against Misericordia University (April 30)…Closed the season on a strong note, going 3-for-4 with one RBI against York College of Pennsylvania (May 3)…The strong finish in his final five games lifted his average from .237 to its final .321…Overall, had six multi-hit games.
