Biography

Zach Ellin has played a key role in the baseball revival at Rutgers-Camden, helping the Scarlet Raptors post an 80-44-1 record and capture two regular-season New Jersey Athletic Conference titles during his three-year career. As a sophomore, he hit .305 and earned the Billy Carty Memorial Award as the team’s Most Dedicated Player.
 
4719During his three-year Rutgers-Camden career, Ellin has played in 82 games, starting 64. He owns a .263 career batting average, a .315 slugging percentage and a .328 on-base percentage. He has 49 runs scored and 28 RBIs over his career. A fine defensive outfielder, Ellin has compiled 145 putouts, five assists and a .974 fielding percentage over his three seasons with the Scarlet Raptors.
 
Ellin also was named to the Rutgers-Camden Athletic Director’s Honor Roll for the Fall 2016 semester.
 
Baseball 2016: Played in 32 games, starting 24, evenly split between center and right field…Had a .216/.265/.328 slash line with 17 runs and 17 RBIs…Successful on seven of his nine stolen base attempts…Tied for second on the team with 17 walks…Collected three doubles and one triple…Added four sacrifices and two sacrifice flies…Defensively, had 42 putouts, one assist and two errors for a .956 fielding percentage…Hit .714 (10-for-14) with a runner on third and less than two outs…Had four multiple-RBI games and three multiple-hit games…Had seven at bats (2-for-7, one run, one RBI) in a 22-20 loss against defending national champion Cortland State (March 14), one shy of the single-game program record…Had a six-game hitting streak from April 22-28 (6-for-22, .273)…Went 2-f0r-5 with a double and two RBIs against the College at Brockport (March 5)…Drew three walks and went 1-for-2 with one run at York College of Pennsylvania (March 9)…Had a 2-for-6, two-run game against Trinity (Conn.) College on March 17…Went 1-for-4 as he notched a double, a walk and two RBIs against Wisconsin-Stevens Point (March 18, Game Two)…Went 1-for-3 with a double, two walks, a stolen base, three runs and one RBI against Johns Hopkins University (March 26)…Went 1-for-5 with two RBIs in both games of a doubleheader against New Jersey City University (April 23), while adding his season high of five putouts in the opener.
 
4720Baseball 2015: Played in 41 of the Raptors’ 44 games, starting 40…Hit .305 with 30 runs, 11 RBIs, three doubles, one triple and one home run…Had a .362 slugging percentage, 19 walks and a .393 on-base percentage…Stole six bases in eight attempts…Defensively, finished fourth on the team with 99 putouts…Added four assists, two double plays and a .981 fielding percentage…Named the team’s Most Dedicated Player, winning the Billy Carty Memorial Award…His 41 games played tied for 12th place on the single-season program charts...Ranked second in the NJAC in batting average against left-handed pitchers (.524), leading all lefty-swinging batters in that category…In other NJAC rankings, tied for 15th in runs scored, tied for 18th in walks, finished 23rd in putouts, tied for 23rd in at bats (141), tied for 24th in home runs, finished 25th in percentage for advancing runners (.566), was 26th in total plate appearances (166), tied for 27th in hits (43), tied for 31st in sacrifices (3), 33rd in fielding percentage, 35th in on-base percentage, tied for 36th in total bases (51), tied for 38th in stolen bases, 39th in batting average, 40th in percentage reaching as a leadoff man (.422) and 49th in slugging percentage…Notched 12 multiple-hit games, tied for third-highest on the team…His seven-game hitting streak from April 25-May 2 (10-for-23, .435) tied for the second-longest streak on the team…Made his first collegiate starts by starting both ends of a doubleheader sweep against Amherst College (March 15), going 1-for-4 with two runs and one RBI in the opener and 1-for-3 with a run in the nightcap…Had three-hit games against Stockton University April 10 (3-for-4), and on back-to-back days at York College May 7 (3-for-4, three runs, a triple and one RBI) and at Salisbury University May 8 (3-for-4, two runs and one RBI on his first collegiate home run)…Collected two assists against Centenary College (March 19), throwing out runners at home, to complete a double play, and at third base, while also going 2-for-4 with a run and a double…Went 2-for-4 with one run and two RBIs at New Jersey City University (April 18, Game One), while adding a 1-for-3, one-RBI game in the nightcap…Finished his season with a four-game hitting streak May 4-9 (8-for-15, .533, with six runs and four RBIs)…Collected nine two-hit games, in addition to his three three-hit contests…scored two or more runs six times, including three runs against both William Paterson (March 29, Game One) and York (May 7).
 
Baseball 2014: Appeared in nine games during his freshman season, mainly as a defensive replacement…Went 1-for-8 (.125) and added one sacrifice, one walk and one HBP…Scored two runs…Had four putouts in the outfield in as many chances for a perfect 1.000 fielding percentage…Had a pinch-hit single to left field in the top of the ninth inning against Penn State-Abington (April 9) for his first collegiate hit…Scored on run apiece against Washington & Jefferson (March 20) and Penn State-Brandywine (April 22)…In the Brandywine game, also drew a walk, was hit by a pitch and collected two putouts in center field…Made collegiate debut against Worcester State (March 18), going 0-for-1 as a pinch-hitter and a defensive replacement in left field.
 
High School: Earned three varsity letters at Cherokee High School…Played for Coach Marc Petragnani…Member of the South Jersey Group 4 championship team in 2012…Honor Roll student.
