Biography

A transfer from Atlantic Cape Community College, Julian Martin gave the Rutgers-Camden men’s basketball program a huge spark with his exciting play-making abilities as a point guard during the 2014-15 season. A quick and solid ball-handler who can dish off pin-point passes, slip between defenders to penetrate to the basket, and frustrate opponents with his quick hands to record numerous steals, Martin’s contributions helped the Scarlet Raptors post their best record (14-12) since the 2001-02 campaign.
 
Martin, who returns to the Raptors after missing the entire 2015-16 season, led Rutgers-Camden to a berth in the 2014-15 ECAC tournament, the first post-season competition for the program in its NCAA history. He will serve as the team’s captain.
 
In 73 collegiate games, between Rutgers-Camden and Atlantic Cape Community College, he owns 728 points for a 9.97 scoring average. He also has 229 assists and 161 steals in his combined collegiate career.
 
Basketball 2014-15: Played in all 26 games, starting 25…Averaged 9.0 points and 3.9 rebounds...His .549 shooting percentage from the floor (84-for-153) was the 12th-best percentage in program history for all players with a minimum of 100 attempts, and also allowed him to finish fourth in the New Jersey Athletic Conference in that category…Led the NJAC with 2.3 steals per game, a figure which ranked 33rd across the entire NCAA Division III…His team-leading 60 total steals ranked 27th in the NCAA Division III and tied for the seventh-best single-season mark in program history…Led the Scarlet Raptors with 76 assists, with his 2.9 assists per game ranking eighth in the NJAC…Finished 29th in the NJAC in scoring with his 9.0 average…Added three blocked shots…Scored in double figures 10 times, with a high of 21 points (9-for-11 shooting from the floor) against Arcadia University (Nov. 19)…Averaged 16.7 points in his first three games as a Scarlet Raptor (Nov. 15-22) and scored in double figures for four straight games (Dec. 10-Jan. 3), averaging 14.3 points…Collected at least one assist in every game, including 14 games with three or more assists and 10 games with four or more…Collected his Raptor career high of five assists on four occasions, coming against Arcadia University (Nov. 19), Ramapo College (Jan. 17), William Paterson University (Jan. 24) and Kean University (Jan. 31)…Had nine games with three or more steals, including five contests with four or more…Posted his Raptor career high of six steals against Stockton University (Dec. 10) and tied that total against Ramapo College (Jan. 17)…Had three seven-rebound games, coming against Penn State-Brandywine (Dec. 30), Moravian College (Jan. 5) and Ramapo College (Jan. 17)…Made his Rutgers-Camden debut with a start against Immaculata University (Nov. 15) in the season opener, collecting 16 points, six rebounds, four steals and three assists…In addition to his 21 points against Arcadia University (Nov. 19), also added two steals, five assists and three rebounds…Notched another double-digit scoring output with 13 points against William Paterson University (Nov. 22), while adding six rebounds, two assists and two steals…Scored 15 points against Stockton University (Dec 10), with six steals, three assists and one rebound…Shot 7-for-9 from the floor and 5-for-6 from the foul line on the way to 19 points against Penn State-Brandywine (Dec. 30), adding three steals, four assists and the first of his three career-high games of seven rebounds…Also had seven boards against Moravian College (Jan. 5) and Ramapo College (Jan. 17).
 
Pre-Rutgers: Played two seasons at Atlantic Cape Community College for Buccaneers Coach Andrew Fields…Graduated with a 3.0 GPA, earning his Associates degree…In 22 games during the 2012-13 season, he scored 130 points (5.9 ppg) and collected 52 steals and 39 assists…During the 2013-14 campaign, he played in 25 games, scoring 365 points (14.6 ppg) and adding 114 assists and 49 steals.
