Biography

Kelvin Rivera came to Rutgers-Camden as a basketball player, but his first collegiate athletic experience was with the cross country program during the 2015 fall season. Once the basketball season started, Rivera proved to be one of the top young guards on the Scarlet Raptors, playing in all 25 games.
 
Academically, Rivera was named to the Rutgers-Camden Athletic Director’s Honor Roll for the Spring 2016 semester.
 
Basketball 2015-16: Played in all 25 of the Scarlet Raptors’ games, starting 12…Averaged 2.8 points and 1.8 rebounds…Second on the team with 38 assists…Added 14 steals to finish third on team…Shot 16-for-22 (.727) from the foul line…Shot 22-for-71 (.310) from the floor, including 9-for-27 (.333) from three-point range…Made his collegiate debut playing 24 minutes at Penn State-Harrisburg in the season opener (Nov. 14), notching one point, two rebounds, one assist and one steal…Had a career-high four steals the next day in PSU-Harrisburg’s Tip-Off Tournament consolation game against Roanoke College, adding five points, two assists and four rebounds…Made his first collegiate start against Rosemont College (Nov. 20), notching three points, one rebound and one assist…Had his freshman high of seven points against Rowan University (Dec. 2), shooting 3-for-3 from the floor (1-for-1 from three-point range), while adding one steal and one rebound…In a Dec. 30 game at Neumann University, collected five points, three assists, three rebounds and one steal…Notched back-to-back six-point games against Rowan University (Jan. 27) and Kean University (Jan. 30), tying his season high of five boards and adding three assists against Kean…Scored six points at Ramapo (Feb. 13), shooting 2-for-5 from three-point range, while adding two rebounds and two assists.
 
Cross Country 2015: Competed in one 8K race at the Jack Saint Clair Memorial Invitational (Oct. 10)…Finished fourth on the Scarlet Raptors and 120th of 133 runners overall, posting a time of 44:15.8.
 
High School: Graduated from Hammonton High School in 2015…Earned four basketball letters for Coach Joseph Martino and three football letters for Coach Pete Lancetta…Captured First Team Tri-County All-Conference as a senior…Honorable Mention Cape Atlantic League National Conference as a junior…Team’s Player of the Week every week as a senior in basketball.
 
Personal: Born February 16, 1996…Is a big sneaker fan who loves buying shoes…Enjoys spending time with family and friends…Criminal Justice major at Rutgers-Camden who hopes to become a police officer for his hometown, then an officer for his former high school and eventually become a detective…Kelvin is the son of Miguel and Glenda Aviles of Hammonton.
