Rutgers-Camden Athletics

For the second season in a row, Anthony Romero turned his lone goal of the year into a game-winning tally, giving him a pair of winning goals in his collegiate career. A big, strong center back, Romero not only is an offensive threat off Raptor restarts, but an imposing presence who anchors the Rutgers-Camden defense. In 31 career games, Romero has made 21 starts in his two seasons at Rutgers-Camden.
 
A stellar student as well, Romero has earned Academic Honorable Mention from the New Jersey Athletic Conference and is a three-time member of the Rutgers-Camden Athletic Director’s Honor Roll.

Soccer 2017: Appeared in 20 games, starting 14…Took 13 shots, six on goal…Lone goal of the season came when he headed home a restart early in the second half to provide the game-winning goal in a 2-1 decision over Ramapo College (Sept. 30)…After coming off the bench in his first five games, started 14 of his last 15 contests, beginning with a 3-1 win over Misericordia University (Sept. 19)…Helped the Raptors post two shutouts and hold opponents to one goal on nine other occasions.
 
Soccer 2016: Played in 11 games, starting the last seven…Scored one goal, a game winner…Took five shots, with one on goal…Contributed to four shutouts, starting two of them…Made his collegiate debut playing 33 minutes in a 4-0 shutout against Farmingdale State (Sept. 10)…In his first career start, his first-half header produced the lone goal of the game as Rutgers-Camden edged No. 5/12-ranked Haverford College, 1-0, on Oct. 5…It was the Scarlet Raptors’ first win over a Top 5 team since beating Rowan University in 1998…The feat earned him honors as the school’s Raptor of the Week on Oct. 10…Had two shots in a 0-0 tie against Swarthmore College (Oct. 19).
 
High School: A center back who captured three varsity soccer letters at Cherry Hill High School East for Coach Mike Melograna…Captured Second Team All-Olympic Conference as a sophomore…First Team All-Olympic Conference during his junior and senior years…Honor Roll student as a junior and senior.

Personal: Born June 9, 1998…Outside of soccer, enjoys reading, playing basketball, listening to music and hanging out with friends…Business Management major at Rutgers-Camden…Plans on traveling after graduation…Antonio is the son of Maureen and Nelson Romero of Cherry Hill.
