Biography

A big, strong center back, Billy Melnick missed the 2022 season with an injury. A tenacious defender who has earned All-New Jersey Athletic Conference honors both on the soccer pitch and in the classroom, Melnick has appeared in 30 games for the Scarlet Raptors, while contributing to seven shutouts and adding one goal for two points.
 
Academics: New Jersey Athletic Conference Academic Honorable Mention for the 2020-21 and 2021-22 scholastic years…Rutgers-Camden Athletic Director’s Honor Roll for the 2019 Fall, 2020 Spring, 2020 Fall, 2021 Fall and 2022 Spring semesters…Dean’s List student.
 
Soccer 2022: Missed the season with an injury.
 
Soccer 2021: Played in 16 games, starting 14…Notched one goal for two points…Took five shots, two on goal…Helped the Raptors post two shutouts, coming in 1-0 wins over Immaculata (Sept. 21) and Springfield (Nov. 13)…Scored the team’s lone goal, his first career tally, in a 4-1 loss against Cortland (Sept. 12)…Played the full 90 minutes in a 2-0 loss to Stockton (Sept. 29) and a 2-1 loss at The College of New Jersey (Oct. 13).
 
Soccer 2020: Captured New Jersey Athletic Conference Honorable Mention…Played in all seven Rutgers-Camden games, starting six, during the short season…Helped Rutgers-Camden post one shutout and hold opponents to one goal on three occasions…Played 70 minutes off the bench in a season-opening 1-1 tie against eventual NJAC champion Ramapo (March 10)…Made his first start in a 3-2 loss against William Paterson (March 13)…Helped the Raptors blank New Jersey City, 2-0, on March 17 to give Head Coach Tim Oswald his 200th career win at Rutgers-Camden…Played all 90 minutes against NJCU and in a 1-0 loss at Stockton (March 20) and a 2-1 NJAC quarterfinal win at Stockton (April 7).
 
Soccer 2019: Appeared in seven games, starting three…Took two shots…Played six minutes in his collegiate debut in the Scarlet Raptors’ season-opening 1-0 win against Carthage (Aug. 30)…Took his first shot and played 28 minutes in a 5-1 win over Mount St. Vincent (Aug. 31)…Made his first start in a 1-0 win over Alvernia (Sept. 4)…Started, took one shot and played the entire 90 minutes in a 2-0 victory over New Jersey City University (Oct. 5)…Started and played 75 minutes in a 2-0 loss at King’s College (Oct. 8)…Overall, played in four of the nine shutouts registered by Rutgers-Camden.
 
High School: Captured four varsity soccer letters at William Penn Charter for Coach Bob DiBenedetto…Also added two varsity lacrosse letters, one varsity letter in track and one in football…Earned Second Team All-Inter AC as a junior and First Team All-Inter AC during his senior year…Honor Roll all four years…Graduated in 2019.
