Biography

Christian McCartney started 41 of his 49 games at Rutgers-Camden since transferring to the school from New Jersey Athletic Conference rival William Paterson University. In his three seasons with the Scarlet Raptors, he has produced three goals, including one game-winning goal, and seven assists for 13 points. He also has earned All-NJAC honors on the soccer pitch and in the classroom.
 
McCartney served as one of the Scarlet Raptors’ tri-captains during the 2022 season.
 
Academics: New Jersey Athletic Conference Academic Honorable Mention for the 2020-21, 2021-22 and 2022-23 scholastic years…Rutgers-Camden Athletic Director’s Honor Roll student for the 2020 Fall, 2021 Spring, 2022 Spring and 2022 Fall semesters…Dean’s List student.
 
Soccer 2022: Played in all 22 Raptor games, starting 17…Took 15 shots, 12 on goal…Scored two goals, shooting 2-for-2 on penalty kicks…Tied for the team lead with three assists and seven points…Served as a team tri-captain…Notched a penalty kick goal in a 4-3 win over William Paterson (Sept. 24)…Collected three assists – one shy of the program’s single-game record – during a 3-3 tie against Rutgers-Newark (Oct. 15)…Collected the Raptors’ lone goal on a penalty kick in a 2-1 loss at Montclair State (Nov. 1) in the New Jersey Athletic Conference semifinals.
 
Soccer 2021: New Jersey Athletic Conference Honorable Mention…Member of the Cialella Soccer Classic All-Tournament Team (Sept. 11-12)…NJAC Defensive Player of the Week (Nov. 15)…Played in all 20 Rutgers-Camden games, starting 18…Finished second on the team with four assists…Added one goal, a game-winning tally in the first overtime to beat Springfield College, 1-0, in the ECAC quarterfinals (Nov. 13)…Played a season-high 110 minutes in a 0-0 double-overtime tie against New York University (Sept. 4), one of five games in which he played every minute…Collected an assist on Frankie Knapp’s goal during a 3-2 win over Catholic (Sept. 11)…Assisted on Ian Bialy’s goal in a 2-1 win over Ramapo College (Oct. 9) and on the first goal of Skyler Diggs’ hat trick in a 4-1 win over New Jersey City University (Oct. 16)…Assisted on Diggs’ game-tying goal in an eventual 2-1 win at Rutgers-Newark (Oct. 23)…Helped Rutgers-Camden post five shutouts and a 1.31 goals-against average.
 
Soccer 2020: New Jersey Athletic Conference Honorable Mention…In a shortened season switched to March, 2021 due to the pandemic, he played in all seven Rutgers-Camden games, starting six…Took seven shots, three on goal…Played all 110 minutes in the season-opening 1-1 tie against Ramapo (March 10)…Took three shots, two on goal, while playing 69 minutes against William Paterson (March 13)…In his only game off the bench, played 84 minutes to help Rutgers-Camden blank New Jersey City, 2-0, on March 17, giving Head Coach Tim Oswald his 200th career win with the Scarlet Raptors…Played all 90 minutes in his final four games, including NJAC playoff games at Stockton (a 2-1 win April 7) and at Montclair State (a 3-1 semifinal loss, April 10).
 
Pre-Rutgers: Played his freshman season at William Paterson University in 2018…Appeared in seven games, starting two for the Pioneers…Took two shots, both on goal…Made his collegiate debut and took his first shot in Paterson’s 6-1 win over York (NY) on Sept. 12, 2018…Made his first start and had one shot in a 2-0 win against DeSales (Oct. 3)…Also started a 2-0 win over Baruch (Oct. 8)…Overall, helped Paterson post three shutouts and a 6-1 record in his seven games.
 
High School:  Four-year varsity soccer letterman at Old Bridge High School for Coach Christopher McGrath…Captured First Team All-Conference and First Team All-County as a senior, collecting 12 goals and 22 assists for 46 points…Graduated in 2018.
