Kevin Nuss rejoins the Rutgers University-Camden men’s soccer staff for the 2018 season after spending the last seven years in a variety of coaching and management positions. An assistant coach at Rutgers-Camden from 2008-10 when the Scarlet Raptors first climbed into national prominence, Nuss also has served as an assistant coach on the Division I soccer level, as well as a general manager for academy soccer programs.

Nuss, who holds a United State Soccer Federation “C” coaching license, returns to Rutgers-Camden after serving as the General Manager of the Cedar Stars Academy.

Nuss started his coaching career as an assistant at Camden County College in 2006, before joining the Scarlet Raptors’ staff for a magical season in 2008. During his maiden year at Rutgers-Camden, he helped the team post a 16-5-2 record and earn the first NCAA Division III tournament berth in program history. The Scarlet Raptors went 37-22-6 during his three-year coaching career from 2008-10, capping that span by winning the 2010 ECAC Division III Metro/Upstate championship.

Nuss transitioned to the Division I coaching level during the 2011-12 scholastic year, serving as an assistant at Saint Joseph’s University, while also becoming an assistant with the Ocean City Nor’easters of the Premier Development League. He spent the 2013 collegiate season as an assistant coach at Brown University.

Moving up in the Nor’easters’ organization, Nuss served as Ocean City’s Associate Head Coach from May 2013-May 2015, while also transitioning into his role as the team’s General Manager.  He served as Ocean City’s GM from May 2014 to September 2016 before taking the GM position for the Cedar Stars Academy. During his time in Ocean City, the Nor’easters earned two berths in the PDL national semifinals (2013 and 2016) and sent 40 players into the professional ranks. The Nor’easters captured three playoff berths, won two Eastern Conference championships and qualified for the Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup twice during Nuss’ tenure.

During his collegiate career, Nuss was a star goalkeeper at three schools, including a pair Rutgers-Camden’s New Jersey Athletic Conference rivals, William Paterson University and Rowan University. Nuss started his collegiate career at Camden County College in 2003, where he was honored as an Adidas/NSCAA First Team Regional All-American goalie and captured First Team honors in both Region XIX and the Garden State Athletic Conference. That season he saved 115 of 126 shots on goal and ranked fifth nationally with a 0.89 goals-against average.

Nuss played at William Paterson during the 2004 and 2005 campaigns, starting 27 of his 31 games over that span, while posting a 9-16-3 record and a 1.79 goals-against average. During his junior year in 2005, he went 6-6-3 with seven shutouts and a 1.22 goals-against average.  Despite only playing two seasons with the Pioneers, he ranks fourth on the program’s career list for saves (147) and seventh in shutouts (eight). Among Paterson’s single-season records, his 2005 campaign has him ranked ninth in saves (78) and tied for fourth in shutouts (seven).

Nuss closed his collegiate career as Rowan’s starting goalie in 2007, posting 78 saves, a 9-6-1 record, four shutouts and a 1.39 goals-against average, while playing in 1357:13 of the team’s 1944:28 minutes in goal. He graduated from Rowan in 2008 with a degree in American Studies.

During his scholastic days, Nuss was a soccer and indoor track letterman at Kingsway Regional High School in Swedesboro.
