Biography
A transfer from D’Youville University in Buffalo, New York, Cherif Kanoute has been a key cog on the Rutgers-Camden basketball program for the past two seasons. In 49 career games with the Scarlet Raptors, he is averaging 8.8 points and 5.2 rebounds.
Kanoute also has participated with the Rutgers-Camden men’s tennis team and has captured several academic honors.

Basketball 2024-25: Appeared in all 24 Rutgers-Camden games, starting 22…Finished third on the team in scoring (8.4 points per game) and second in rebounding (4.5 rpg)…Tied for first on the Raptors in blocked shots (15) and tied for second in assists (41)…Added nine steals…Shot 72-for-137 (.526) from the floor and 48-for-73 (.658) from the foul line…Scored in double figures on eight occasions, including a career high of 24 points against St. Elizabeth (Nov. 16) when he shot 9-for-12 from the floor and 6-for-11 from the foul line…He added seven rebounds, one assist and a career-high three steals in the St. Elizabeth game…Had his season high of nine rebounds against Montclair State (Dec. 14)…Dished off three or more assists in five games, including four against both Rowan (Dec. 4) and Kean (Feb. 8)…Notched his career high with three blocks against both Hunter (Nov. 21) and William Paterson (Feb. 15)…Shot 7-for-8 from the foul line against Hunter (Nov. 21).
Tennis Spring 2024: Joined team late in the season and played in matches against Neumann (April 12) and Lehman (April 26)…Went 0-2 in singles and 1-1 in doubles…At Neumann, lost at sixth singles (0-6, 0-6) and third doubles (0-8), teaming with Jeremy Young…At Lehman, posted an 8-5 win at second doubles with Thanh Ngo and also lost at fifth singles, 2-6, 1-6.
Basketball 2023-24: Played in all 25 games for the Scarlet Raptors, starting 24…Led the team with 5.8 rebounds per game and tied for the team lead with 15 blocked shots…Finished third on the Raptors in scoring at 9.2 points per game…Tied for third on the team with 43 assists...Added 17 steals…Shot 84-for-164 from the floor (.512, second on the team)…Shot 59-for-103 from the foul line (.573)…Had 101 defensive rebounds and 45 offensive boards for 146 total…Scored 231 points…Named Rutgers-Camden’s Raptor of the Week on Feb. 12…Scored in double figures on 12 occasions, with highs of 17 points against both Stockton (Jan. 24) and Kean (Feb. 7)…Also had 15-point games against Hunter in his Rutgers-Camden debut (Nov. 11) and Penn State-Berks (Jan. 3)…Collected double-digit rebounds in six games, with highs of 11 against Kean (Dec. 13), The College of New Jersey (Jan. 17) and Kean (Feb. 7), which contributed to three of his four double-doubles on the season…In the first Kean game and the TCNJ contest, he also scored 11 points…In the second Kean game he had 17 points…He also added 10 rebounds to his 17-point performance against Stockton on Jan. 24…Collected his highs of five assists on four occasions, coming against Bryn Athyn (Nov. 11), Rosemont (Nov. 16), Moravian (Nov. 18) and Rutgers-Newark (Jan. 27)…Had highs of two steals in five different games…Notched two blocks against both Rutgers-Newark (Dec. 9) and Stockton (Jan. 24)…Hit 7-for-8 on field goal attempts in scoring 14 points against Rosemont (Nov. 16), 7-for-9 in his 17-point performance at Stockton (Jan. 24) and 6-for-7 on his way to 13 points at Montclair State (Jan. 20).
Pre-Rutgers: Played his freshman year at D’Youville University in 2022-23, appearing in 23 games and averaging 2.2 points and 2.7 rebounds…Added 11 assists, 13 steals and 10 blocked shots…Shot 20-for—35 (.571) from the floor…Had highs of seven points against Mercyhurst (Dec. 7) and six rebounds against both Queens (Jan. 27) and St. Thomas Aquinas (Feb. 19).
