Long-time basketball coach and personal trainer Marlene Grimes returns for her second season as an assistant coach with the Rutgers University-Camden women’s basketball program.
 
Grimes, a starting guard who had a standout four-year collegiate career at Marymount University in Arlington, Virginia, went on to coach 10 seasons of scholastic basketball at her alma mater, Camden Catholic High School. She also served as Camden Catholic’s Athletic Director for nine years.
 
Grimes has been a personal trainer for over 20 years and added sports recruiting to her resume in 2015. She owns her own business, MG Personal Training and Sports Recruiting Services, where she has helped numerous athletes in a wide range of training disciplines.
 
During her career at Marymount, Grimes averaged 16.7 points and held the school record for career points (1,407) for four years. At one time, she also held the school mark for steals in one season (140) and she still holds the career mark with 435 steals. Grimes earned a berth on the Kodak Women’s All-District Basketball Team in 1990, the same year she was named as the Small College Player of the Year by the Al Carino Basketball Club of South Jersey. She also was nominated as a Division III All-American.
 
Grimes graduated from Marymount in 1991 with a BA in Physical Fitness Management and was inducted into the Marymount Athletic Hall of Fame in 2009.
