Rutgers-Camden Athletics

Michelle McCarthy became one of the Scarlet Raptors’ team and campus leaders during her first scholastic year at Rutgers-Camden. A transfer who was a two-year basketball letterwinner at Rowan College at Gloucester County, McCarthy was named the Scarlet Raptors’ Most Dedicated Athlete during her junior season.
 
McCarthy also served as a member of Rutgers-Camden’s Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) and earned a berth on the Athletic Director’s Honor Roll during both of her semesters (Fall 2016, Spring 2017).
 
During her senior season, McCarthy will join Michelle Obasi and Cara Racobaldo as the Scarlet Raptors’ tri-captains.
 

Basketball 2016-17: Played in 20 games, starting one…Averaged 0.8 points and 1.0 rebounds…Collected six steals and added three assists…Shot 8-for-10 (.800) from the foul line…Set her Raptor career highs of six points, three steals and one assist against John Jay College (Nov. 26), while adding three rebounds…Tied her high of one assist against both King’s College (Dec. 1) and New Jersey City University (Dec. 3)…Tied her high of three steals against Ramapo College (Jan. 4) in her lone start of the season…Collected her Raptor career high of six rebounds against Neumann University (Jan. 9)…Went 4-for-4 from the foul line to score four points, and also added a rebound against New Jersey City University (Jan. 21).

 
Pre-Rutgers: Played for Rowan College at Gloucester County during the 2014-15 and 2015-16 seasons…Played four games as a freshman, averaging 5.0 points and 2.8 rebounds, while adding eight steals, seven blocks and three assists…During her sophomore season, started all 22 of her games  and averaged 8.5 points and 7.1 rebounds…Collected 50 steals, 29 assists and 28 blocks…For her two-year Roadrunner career, scored 207 points (8.0 ppg), collected 167 rebounds (6.4 rpg) and added 58 steals, 35 blocks and 32 assists.
 
High School: Was a three-sport star at Gloucester Catholic High School before graduating in 2014…Lettered in basketball, field hockey and lacrosse…Played basketball for Coach Lisa Gedaka, the sister of Rutgers-Camden coach Annette Reiter.
 
Personal:  Born June 12, 1996…Hobbies and interests include painting, writing, reading and cooking…Biology major at Rutgers-Camden who plans to start a business that has to do with her love for a healthy lifestyle and vegan food…Michelle is the daughter of Kenneth and Kathy McCarthy of Gloucester City.
