Chris Smith became the Scarlet Raptors’ starting shortstop midway through his freshman season and made the most of his opportunity, playing stellar defensive ball and hitting .281.

Baseball 2025: Appeared in 27 games, making 17 starts…Hit .281 with a .414 on-base percentage, walking 10 times and getting hit three times…Scored 13 runs and added nine RBIs…Defensively, made 32 putouts and 63 assists…Had four errors, but only one after becoming the full-time starting shortstop on April 17…Helped to turn 13 double plays…Made his collegiate debut as a pinch-runner and defensive replacement at shortstop on Feb. 25 against Gwynedd Mercy, getting hit by a pitch, scoring one run and collecting his first two assists…Made his first start at shortstop against nationally-ranked Cortland (March 9), going 0-for-1 with a sacrifice, one putout and two errors…Collected his first collegiate hit against Rosemont (March 12), going 1-for-2 with one run, while adding one putout and one error at shortstop…Went 1-for-1 with a stolen base, a run scored and one assist against Alvernia (April 15)…Made his second collegiate start at shortstop against Stockton (April 17), going 1-for-2 with two walks, one run, three putouts and two assists, nailing down the starting shortstop job the rest of the season…Went 1-for-3 with a sacrifice, one run and his first collegiate RBI against Stockton (April 18), while adding one putout and seven assists…Had two putouts and seven assists against Montclair State (April 24)…Went 2-for-4 with one run and two RBIs against William Paterson (April 26, Game One)…Went 3-for-4 with two walks, two RBIs, one run, one putout and four assists in a New Jersey Athletic Conference playoff game against Montclair State (May 3)…Had a sensational game in the NJAC playoffs against Rowan (May 7), going 3-for-5 with a walk, two runs, two RBIs and three putouts, while collecting nine assists, tied for the fourth-highest single-game total in program history and only one behind the three-way tie for the record…When the Raptors clinched their first NJAC title in program history against The College of New Jersey (May 9), Smith collected six assists and two putouts, while adding one walk and one run scored…Notched eight putouts and six assists over the Scarlet Raptors’ three NCAA tournament games (May 16-17), while chipping in two hits, two runs, one walk and one RBI.
