An outstanding defensive center fielder, Steven Shaffer recorded a .995 fielding percentage during his two seasons at Rutgers-Camden, posting the second-best mark in program history for all players with a minimum of 200 total chances. He finished his Scarlet Raptor career with 208 putouts, six assists and only one error, while also adding four double plays.

A transfer from Norfolk State University, Shaffer appeared in 83 games at Rutgers-Camden, starting 81, and collecting 94 hits. He posted a career slash line of .298/.392/444 while collecting 20 doubles, four triples and six home runs. He scored 77 runs and drove home 63 during his Raptor career, while walking 44 times and reaching base eight times as a hit batsman. He also went 27-for-32 on stolen base attempts to rank 12th on the program’s career stolen base list.

Baseball 2025: Ranked among the program’s all-time single-season leaders with 45 games (third), 176 at bats (fourth) and 45 runs (fifth)…Finished second on the team with his 176 at bats and 45 runs…Had the third-highest number of total chances (111) with a 1.000 fielding percentage in program history…Set the single-season program record with 51 strikeouts…Hit .278 with a .371 on-base percentage and a .420 slugging percentage…Second on the team with five home runs and tied for fourth with eight doubles…Added one triple…Had the team’s longest hitting streak in 2025 at 10 games from Feb. 27-March 17 (14-for-47, .298)…Opened the season going 3-for-5 with a double, a walk, two runs and one RBI against Immaculata (Feb. 22, Game One)…Stole home on the back end of a double steal in the third inning against Immaculata (Feb. 22, Game Two), the most recent steal of home in program history and one of the two steals he had in that game…Also had two steals against Delaware Valley (April 1), when he went 3-for-4 with a double and three runs scored…Had a 3-for-6 game against Montclair State in the NJAC playoffs (May 3), adding two runs and one RBI…Posted three RBIs against both Centenary (April 22, 2-for-3, a triple and one run) and William Paterson (April 26, Game Two, going 2-for-5 with a home run and two runs scored)…Went 4-for-10 with three runs and two RBIs, including home runs in back-to-back games against Rowan on April 10 and 14….Tied for third on the team with 14 multiple-hit games and added five multiple-RBI games…Defensively, had his high of six putouts against both Rowan (April 14) and Montclair State (April 24).

Baseball 2024: Played in 38 of the team’s 41 games, starting 36…Made 15 starts in right field, 11 in center field, six as the designated hitter and four at first base…A middle-of-the-order hitter, he hit in the third spot of the lineup in 22 games and was the cleanup hitter in 11 contests…Also served twice as the Raptors’ leadoff man and hit in the fifth spot once…Hit .324 with 32 runs…Tied for the team lead in RBIs (36) and doubles (12), while leading the Raptors with three triples and 21 walks…Added one home run and was hit by a pitch four times…Finished second on the team in stolen bases, going 11-for-13 on steal attempts…Had 98 putouts and five assists, while participating in four double plays…Tied for third on the team with 12 multiple-hit games, including four-hit contests against New Jersey City in the nightcap of a March 30 doubleheader (4-for-5, two runs, two RBIs, a double and a triple) and William Paterson in the opener of an April 27 doubleheader (4-for-5, two doubles and a walk, three runs and four RBIs)…Had four RBIs on four occasions, including the Paterson game and his Raptor debut against Gwynedd Mercy (Feb. 27), when he went 2-for-4 with his first triple and one run scored…Also had four RBIs against Rosemont (March 3, Game Two), going 2-for-4 with a double, a home run and two runs scored, and in a game against Alvernia (April 16), going 3-for-5 with a double, a triple and two runs scored, while adding his season high of 10 putouts playing first base…Overall, had eight multi-RBI games (third on the team)…Had his season-long eight-game hitting streak from April 7-18, going 14-for-30 (.467) with nine runs, 13 RBIs, four doubles, one triple, five walks, two HBP, a .667 slugging percentage and a .525 OBP…Also had a six-game hitting streak from March 12-24, going 9-for-20 (.450) with three runs, three doubles, three RBIs, five walks, a .600 slugging percentage and a .560 on-base percentage…Went 4-for-6 with four runs and four RBIs in a doubleheader against Rutgers-Newark (April 13)…Went 6-for-10 with four runs and four RBIs in a doubleheader at William Paterson (April 27).
