Rutgers-Camden Athletics

One of the many stellar freshmen on the 2017 Rutgers-Camden volleyball team, Ashley Newman returns to the Scarlet Raptors this fall. She will serve as one of the four team captains for the 2018 season.
 
Academics: Rutgers-Camden Athletic Director’s Honor Roll for the 2017 Fall and 2018 Spring semesters.
 
Volleyball 2017: Played in 91 sets over 31 matches, making four starts…Finished third on the team with 201 digs…Tied for fifth on the team with 26 service aces…Added four kills and nine assists…Collected double-digit digs in seven matches, with a high of 16 in a five-set match against Wesley College (Sept. 23)…Added 15 digs in a five-set match against Marywood University (Oct. 21)…Had 12 digs on four occasions, coming against William Paterson University (Sept. 21), Wilkes University (Sept. 23), Penn State-Abington (Sept. 30) and Ramapo College (Oct. 24)…Notched her first double-digit match in digs with 10 against Rowan University (Sept. 19)…Collected a high of four service aces against John Jay College (Oct. 14) and notched three against Misericordia University (Sept. 7)…Had her high of two assists against Penn State-Abington (Sept. 30) and collected a pair of kills on two occasions, coming against DeSales University (Sept. 1) and New Jersey City University (Sept. 12).
 
High School: Multi-sport star who earned eight scholastic varsity letters and graduated from Methacton High School in 2017…Earned four varsity volleyball letters and two apiece in spring and winter track…All-Conference Honorable Mention as a sophomore for Volleyball Coach Shane Manser…All-Conference Second Team as a junior and All-Conference First Team as a senior…Also earned District Honorable Mention during her senior year in volleyball…Four-year “M” Award recipient…Four-year Honor Roll student…All-Academic conference honors in volleyball as a senior.

Personal: Born December 27, 1998…Hobbies and interests include running and exercising, volunteering for 5K’s and other running events and spending time with close family and friends…Business Accounting major at Rutgers-Camden who is considering grad school for forensic accounting…Ashley is the daughter of Leslie and Chris Newman of Collegeville, Pennsylvania.
